welcome back to a new week. Trying to squeeze in some crafting time this weekend was a challenge, thankfully not because Mr 2 was sick again - he's back to full strength - hooray! No this weekend we had friends visiting - which was lovely but really busy. But I'm up for a challenge :) so I did manage to find the time. Just as well too as I had to make a birthday card for my hubby! Luckily Makeesha Byl set a great sketch for her challenge this week (the challenge is actually hosted on Kirsty Brown's blog this week). Here's the sketch.
For my hubby I often reach for star related themes as he is an astronomer by trade. I knew I had a cute little rocket ship but there was one catch. I needed to watercolour it (Kirsty's extra challenge this week). Why the catch - well the whole body of the rocket ship was actually a solid stamp. But I had at hand my handy Versamarker ! So with some hope and a lot of trepidation I went around the edges of the solid stamp areas as well as inking up the rest of the stamp then stamped it on watercolour paper. Then I black embossed it.And guess what it worked!! Here is how it turned out.
To go with the starry/rocket ship theme I started with a Night of Navy base, layered that with silver then topped that with Night of Navy again. As per the sketch (which I rotated onto its side) I added some layers/stripes over the top Navy layer. For these I started with some silver cardstock dry embossed with stars, layered with red and navy felt ric rac. I stitched the ric rac down onto the silver layer using the opposite coloured thread. The central element is of course the rocketship - so having embossed it, I got out my watercolour crayons and aquapainter and watercoloured it. I also added silver to the nose cone from my Silver Encore pad using an old blender pan. To finish off this image panel - I added some Night of Navy stars, pierced all the way around the edge and added a button and a sentiment. The final finishing elements were to pierce around the edges of the top base layer and also add some silver embossed stars.
As a special touch for my hubby I added a bit of an interactive inside, cutting a spiral from a circle and adding lots of stars to the spiral. You can find a tutorial for this type of pop up card on Splitcoasters here.

well I'm back this week with my card for Makeesha Byl's weekly challenge this week a sketch. Here it is.
Now I did remember to call my Dad on Father's Day but I have been procrastinating about a card as I wanted to send him something that I liked and also thought he would like! So I used the sketch to hopefully come up with something that fits the bill!Here's the result.
I started out with a Choc Chip base, cut A frame, then added a Whisper White layer, then topped that with a Baja layer that I had impressed with a woodgrain pattern. I also smudged white ink over the pattern and then sponged around the edges with Chocolate Chip. For the flower element in the sketch I cut two frames, one from DSP and the other from Whisper White. Then I added a lounge chair, stamped on and then trimmed out from DSP, and a Choc Chip pussy cat to sit on the top. The final element was to layer some 1" retired Choc Chip stitched grosgrain under the frame and add the sentiment.
I was happy with how it turned out - some nice texture and good colours for a blokey card. So its off into the mail ASAP!

well I'm back for the Inkspiration challenge this week, after having last week off to visit my new little niece - its so easy to forget how tiny they are when their born - especially when you have two kids, now 2.5 and 5.5 years running around! So this week its not going to be a baby card ;) This week Keesh has picked out a nice combo of colours (see below) so instead I opted for boys birthday card (of the grown up type) since quite a few of the men in my family have birthdays coming up.
And here is what I came up with. I finally succumbed to the banner/pennant trend and I must admit it does give a fun look :)
I started with a Whisper White base, layered that with a Chocolate Chip and then added a top Whisper White layer embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder. Across the top left corner I added a little string of three flags strung together with linen thread and mounted on dimensionals. For the central panel I started with a Choc Chip base cut with a scalloped rectangle nestability. I layered that with Whisper White. In the bottom left corner I stamped B is for birthday. Different bits inked up in the different colours and the central star is up on a dimensional. I finished off the top panel with a string of 5 flags in alternating colours, across the top right corner, again strung together with linen thread. This top panel was mounted over a strip of the (now retired) 1" Choc Chip grosgrain. I finished the inside off with another string of flags.

welcome back - it's another week and time for another Inkspirations challenge. This week Keesh posted a truly lovely colour combo and I was really looking to have a play with it. Here's the colour pick.
Having looked forward to working with these colours would you believe I struggled! I changed the layout, I looked at every scrap of light pink DSP I had a hundred times (only a slight exaggeration), fiddled and changed my mind. In the end I decided it was incorporating the chocolate chip that I was struggling with. Finally I found a way and I also settled on a layout - flipping this weeks Sweet Sunday sketch.
Here's the result.
OK the final version ;) started with a Rich Razzleberry base, layered that with Whisper White to lighten the colours, then layered that with some Choc Chip DSP. Having worked out where my butterfly was going to be I could stamp my flourish flight trail. I inked up my leafy flourish in versamark and then choc chip and stamped it then embossed with clear embossing powder. Next having picked some Pretty in Pink dotty DSP I layered the two panels onto Razzleberry. Rounded a few corners and stamped the sentiment at the bottom of the long panel. The final piece is the butterfly feature - I stamped some Razzleberry dots onto Pretty in Pink, then punched out a butterfly. To fancy it up I added a wire body and big curly antennaes (I got this idea from a lovely card a special friend of mine made me for my birthday last year - you can see it here), and lastly added a rhinestone brad to bling it up a bit. The butterfly was mounted on dimensionals above a mat of white and Razzleberry circles. The inside was finished off simply to match.
It's not my favourite card of all time but I think it turned out quite nice in the end - and one I hope is suitable for greeting a baby girl to the world which is good as my beautiful little niece arrived this morning:)Welcome to the family baby girl!

welcome back to my entry for this weeks Inkspirations challenge set by the lovely Makeesha. This week Keesh set a sketch and yikes was it a tricky one! Here it is.
I decided to go with a baby card - no specific recipient in mind although I'm expecting to become an Auntie again in the next week or so but whether the bub is a boy or a girl is going to be a surprise. But at least now I have the boy side covered ;) Here it is.
I started out by thinking I wanted a blue/brown lion - so next I had to work out which brown and blue. I ended up settling on Brocade Blue and More Mustard and pulled some old DSP out of my stash to match. So having found all the bits and pieces I set to work!
I started with a Brocade base, then added a Mustard panel with DSP (stripes horizontal) then added DSP (stripes vertical) to the rest of the card base (after piercing around the edges). Then a Mustard panel with more DSP (a more muted blue stripe) was laid. The central lion panel mostly rests over this. I stamped my lion three times once in Brocade as the base, which I then cut using my circle nestabilities. The other two were used to trim out a Mustard lion head with mane and one little Brocade lion face. These two were layered over the original Brocade lion using dimensionals between each layer. The final touches were to add lots of buttons. On the left hand side I threaded and tied them all together with kitchen twine, then glued them down with Tombow. Two little Mustard buttons were added as accents on the right too. Lastly I stamped "Welcome baby" using Chocolate Chip onto twill and added it to the bottom of the lion with a 5/16 silver brad. The inside was finished off to match.
This card ended up being a bit of homage to retiring and retired product - I quite enjoyed having a rifle through my stash - I hope you liked it too.

Hi all, this week Makeesha Byl (welcome back Keesh :) posted a great sketch for her weekly challenge, so great in fact that I couldn't help myself and made two cards!! There is something about sketches with circles or ovals that really appeals to me. Having said that my favourite of my two cards this week - doesn't have either ;) Here's the sketch. 
My first card was inspired by one that Nicole Heady posted back in June for the USA father's day. I love the effect she got and couldn't resist having a go. Here's what I came up with. 
I started with a square Chocolate Chip base and layered that with some PTI paper. For the image panel I started with some Rustic Ivory cardstock, stamped fine text over it in Old Olive and then over that stamped my tree in Versamark. I then clear embossed the tree, then got a sponge and started sponging Old Olive over the embossed tree till I got the depth of colour I wanted. Almost at the same time the sponge would also remove the ink from the embossed image so the tree started to pop out. To remove any excess ink I just went over carefully with a clean tissue. The tree panel was then cut with a Spellbinder Large Label, and mounted on some Choc Chip cardstock. The finished tree panel was laid over three strip of twill that I SNAILed down to the DSP, then frayed the ends and then stitched zig zag over. I really love the earthy atmospheric feel of this one. It even got an approving hmm from my DH! OK now for a change of pace here is card two. I'm back to girl's birthday cards again for this one. Here it is. 
I started by rifling through my DSP collection for a pattern that was suitably girly and would be good for paper piecing. Having settled on this DSP, I got out my stamp, stamped her on Whisper White and also onto the DSP. Then I proceeded to trim out her bow, dress and shoes from the DSP. I used the two way glue pen to stick the DSP onto the stamped image base. Then I got my aquapainter and coloured the rest of her in. Once all that was done I could add the crystal effects to her bow, collar and shoes. I also stamped the cake onto Pink Pirouette and DSP, cut out alternating DSP layers, adhered those, then added crystal effects icing and candle flame - blinged up with a sprinkle of dazzling diamonds. The central image was cut out with an oval die, sponged around the edges with Pink Pirouette, and then layered onto a scalloped oval mat of Riding Hood Red. Rather than three horizontal bands, as per the sketch I have ended up going with two and a half. The top and bottom are strips of DSP laid over scalloped Riding Hood Red. The half ;) is a bow of RHR taffeta from which two little sentiment tags hang. As a final detail I also pierced all the scallops. The large Pink Pirouette mat below was wheeled with the Happy Birthday wheel in Pink Pirouette so it adds just a subtle pattern and message at the same time. I even managed to get it all mostly straight! That was laid over a white mat and then finally the RHR base. I can't deny this wasn't fiddly but every now and again I like to play around with something that is fiddly and I think the fiddling paid off. well welcome back :) This week Makeesha Byl has a colour challenge - a very yummy colour combo indeed. Here it is.
I'm still on a push to make lots of birthday cards (and just as well as my Miss 5 has three birthday party invitations this weekend !!) so when I saw the combo that Keesh put up I knew that was the way to go. Here is the result.
A card I saw earlier in the week by Dawn McVey in this post caught my eye, and so I decided to try and use that as my sketch starting point. I also pulled out a stamp from my stash that had yet to see ink but is quite cute so I thought it could work - my Miss 5 however was not to happy as she says she doesn't have a face!! Despite the lack of face I went ahead anyway! To stamp the image on watercolour paper I used a little trick I've picked up from DanielleDaws who usually embosses her images onto the watercolour paper - and it works a treat!! - thanks Danielle - as the embossed lines really reduce and any bleed of colour from one area to another. Anyway having embossed the image, I then got out my aquapainter and watercolour wonder crayons - slowly adding depth to the image. I did use a bit of choc chip marker at the end to get extra colour into her hair and then blended it in. Having coloured her in - I then also decided to do some paper piecing - so thats how it ended up a mix of the two but I think it combined the bit of the best of both. The final touch was to add dazzling diamonds to her wings -can't go past a little bling. I used my circle nesties to cut her out, as well as a choc chip frame. The image was laid over some dotty Saffron DSP (from Tall Tales) which I pierced around the edges, then adhered to a Regal Rose mat and then Choc Chip base. Finishing elements for the front are a strip of Regal Rose ribbon, embellished with some buttons and the sentiment tag, using my new Sizlet tags. I had a bit of fun with the inside stamping some fluttering dotty butterflies and adding a pierced flight trail from the "happy birthday".

I'm back this week with a card for Makeesha Byl's weekly challenge. This week it was a sketch.
And here is my card...
This took me two takes - although I was pretty happy with my first version but Miss 5 gave it the thumbs down, and since its intended as a birthday card for one of her friends I thought I had better have a second go. I did find this sketch rather challenging, its definitely not one that came to me naturally and as a consequence I did jiggle the width of some of the layers around but I figure that still counts. Being a little girls card pink was the way to go so I pulled out my Sweet Always DSP and found two patterns to mix and match for the different layers, then layered those onto a Very Vanilla mat and then a Rose Red base to up the pink factor. For the other three horizontal layers on the card I added two vanilla punched borders (Apron Lace - love it), and a strip of wide Rose Red ribbon. All of those were adhered in the right order (well the one I'd settled on ;) then sponged around the edges with Regal Rose and then I stitched around the edge of the panels with pink sewing thread. To finished off the card I added a flower/ sentiment embellishment, as per sketch. I punched a 2" scalloped circle in Rose Red, then sueded the layers apart, on top of those I added two Pink Piruoette Felt Fusion Too flowers, then the circle sentiment, another Rose Red fusion flower then a rhinestone brad. The final touch - some Old Olive greenery. The inside was just finished off simply to match.

Yep back again,I've had ideas churning around in my head and just had to get some of these ideas down onto paper. Makeesha Byl's challenge this week was a colour challenge. A nice combo of colours so I couldn't resist :).
The combo does include Kraft, which if you read my previous post blogged today you'd know is not my favourite to work with. But I know colours can stand out well on a Kraft background so that is what I tried to do with this card, which I think is quite different from anything I've posted (or done) before. So without further ado here is the result...
I had several starting points for this card...I wanted to keep it simple no layers (shock horror)... I wanted to use the cosmos like flower from Fifth Avenue Floral, and I wanted to use my Prismacolor pencils as they will lay the colour ontop of the Kraft... and lastly flowers+vase.
Sooo I started with a Kraft base cut square about 12 x12 cm (4'6), rounded two of the corners, than faux stitched using the white gel pen to make a frame (except for the corner where the flowers were to go). For the flowers I stamped three onto Kraft, coloured the central dots with the white gel pen, then used the Prismacolour pencils to create Razzleberry centres that blend out to white at the tips. I then cut the three flowers out. I also made a vase using some Cottage Wall DSP, using the curly label punch to get the curves below the rim. To finish the vase I tied some linen thread around it and threaded a sentiment tag onto it, using Tiny Tags which was perfect, lucky for me it arrived on my doorstep that day ;) Having worked out where I wanted the flowers and vase to go I then added in my flower stems direct to the Kraft base, coloured them in and then added all the flowers and vase mounted up on dimensionals. well this week I'm back with a card to welcome a baby girl to the world. The starting point was to use Makeesha Byl's weekly challenge - this weeks it's a sketch, with a circle element - love those! And since I love to use DSP (patterned paper) I couldn't pass up the Just Add Ink challenge this week too. First up here's the sketch.

The challenge is hosted by one Keesh's DT this week, Cindy Major and Cindy added the extra element that you must use something you've been hoarding. Not hard in my case ;) I knew I wanted to put my button bellied teddy bear in the middle of the circle. Next I hunted for some DSP that would fit the pastelly brown/ pink theme I wanted to use. Having selected the DSP I then stamped my bear on and trimmed it out, then mounted him up on dimensionals above a contrasting DSP pattern. Then added a pink chocolate threaded button to his belly with Tombow. In retrospect I think the button is actually a bit too big. The bear is framed by a Close to Cocoa layer then a large Pink Pirouette scalloped circle. Down the bottom I added my most hoarded element a Build a Brad, had them for over a year and never cracked the tin. I used the Brad (backed by another hoarded element a Felt Fusion flower) to anchor the sentiment banner. To balance that all out I added a couple Felt Fusion Too flowers (letting all the stops out on hoarding now!) layered with a threaded button to the upper left of the scalloped circle. I couldn't go past using a new EK success punch I picked up this week to give a lovely border to the vertical sketch strip and it nicely echos the scalloped cirlce - I hope! I added two ribbons over the top of the Close to Cocoa strip. I tried something new for me, dyeing ribbon. I used a sponge dauber and my Pink Pirouette ink pad to dye some white taffeta - since I wanted to keep the pink/cocoa theme. Finally to finish off the front I stitched around the edge of the top layer using some pale pink thread. The inside is finished off simply to match the front. Overall I'm mostly happy with the end result - one other reservation, beside how big the bears belly button is (try saying that when you've had a couple of glasses of wine!!) is that the front is over cluttered. But you can't get it right 100% of the time and I do like it!

my did Makeesha have a in your face colour combo for her Inkspiration challenge this week! My first thought was argh how do work with that. But the DT put together some fantastic examples and the combo was rapidly growing on me. Factor in some zen time for thinking while I put Mr 2 to bed and I had an idea to work with! Here is the colour combo.
And here is the outcome.
I started with some folded over Pumpkin Pie cardstock which I then cut with my Scallop Circle die. To get an instant card just make sure you don't completely cover the die - that way you get your fold. Next on some Whisper White I stamped the flowering branch from Eastern Blooms. I inked up the stamp using markers for this, colouring the branches Chocolate and then the flowers in mixed Eggplant and Pumpkin. I could then place my circle nestie over the image and cut. I did try one extra trick - to trim out the end of the branch with my scissors and carefully lay this over the die so when it cut the circle the end of the branch would remain extending out from the circle - it worked :). Oh and when I cut the white image layer I also laid my DSP over so that was cut at the same time. Finally I cut a mat of Eggplant, then one of Whisper White. To embellish the front I stamped three flowers and trimmed them out, adding contrasting brads to highlight the centre. Another little trick that I tried was to colour a white brad (with Copic marker V09) to get an Eggplant coloured one - I put on two layers of ink letting it dry in between. Nice! I mounted the flowers on dimensionals above the branch, added a Chocolate rub on for the sentiment and then layered on some narrow Eggplant grosgrain (using sticky strip) to cover the image/DSP transition. The final touch, after some deliberation, was to sponge Pumpkin Pie and then Elegant Eggplant around the edges of the Pumpkin scallop circle base, and just some Pumpkin on the white edge of the image panel. The inside was finished off very simply to match.
I quite liked the end result - its always nice to end feeling that way :) I think I can see more circle cards in the future.

well I'm delighted to be back today posting my guest design team card for Makeesha Byl's weekly challenge (see link at bottom). If you play along with this weeks challenge you too have the chance to get selected as the next guest designer. So what is this weeks challenge - well it's a sketch.
Here's what I came up with....
And of course I finished off the inside to match - with a bit of a grotto for the unicorn to emerge from.
Well given I had made a boys birthday card for the last challenge I decided to go girly today. I actually bought Pony Party "for" my daughter, not me, well that was my excuse at the time ;) but hadn't inked it up yet. Somehow it was rather daunting to approach. But once again an idea struck me as I was putting Mr 2 to bed. Yes I know this is a reoccuring theme - but its dark and quiet and relaxing and somehow that really works as thinking time for me. So I knew I was going to try working with Pony Party and I wanted to go pink and chocolate, with flowers and glitter. First I started with a Regal Rose base and stamped the floral vine from Vintage Vogue all around the border. Next I picked out the DSP I wanted to use for the sketch panels, layered them up on Chocolate Chip, then got out my sewing machine then using "chocolate" thread stitched a border around them. Because the main DSP pattern had a very white background I couldn't use watercolour paper for the pony, so Stazon on Whisper White it was. I tried colouring the image in with both watercolour wonder crayons and ink from the ink pad lids and ended up going with the ink pad lid version. The pony was finished off a rim of pale Going Gray, trimmed to size and then stitched with pink thread about three sides. Once mounted on a Regal Rose and scalloped Chocolate matte I then added Dazzling Diamonds to horn, mane and hoof. The final touches for the front were the sentiment panel, using matching DSP and an embossed greeting and of course the gorgeous little chocolate flower buttons tied with pink thread bows. The inside was finished off to match.
