JAI #304 Just add inspiration

Hello there,
finally, finally the cooler Autumn weather has hit which has been such a delightful change. I love the freshness in the air (especially early in the morning) this time of year. There is still time for flowers to give an Autumn display and perhaps it was the bright pops of colour in this week's Just Add Ink inspiration challenge from Jodene that made me pull out flowers. Here's the inspiration picture. Remember you can pull out whatever elements you like from the inspiration picture - the colours, patterns, umbrella's ;) whatever inspires you!

And here is my flower filled card!

Can you see what elements I pulled from the inspiration picture? Certainly the colours. I also tried to keep the colour balance the same as in the inspiration picture with all the bright pops of colour on the blue background and then changing that to kraft for the bottom. The footbridge ?? element that goes across the picture also inspired my use of the leafy border as a divider between the top and bottom. To add some sparkle I used Iridescent Ice embossing powder for the sentiment and the little white flowers are punched from shimmer white cardstock.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT projects. Hope you can join us.

Happy Easter to you all too!

Kim

JAI #303 Just add something begining with E

Hello there,
you could say the plethora of chocolate eggs appearing in the supermarkets heralding the imminent arrival of Easter was the inspiration for this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week Tina is asking us to Just Add E. Now this means the main elements/ or theme of your project must be something starting with E. That could be Easter (wink) or it could be embossing, elephant, egg, a colour like Elegant Eggplant or even envelope!

As you can probably guess I have gone with the Easter theme. I decided to make a special little Easter package for my two munchkins. Nothing too complicated and they can actually be opened up (with chocolate inside that is a given) without destroying the packaging - bonus for Mum ;)

A side view to show the eggs tucked inside.

These are super simple to create. Simply cut a piece of card stock (A4) in half lengthwise and then score at 4.5, 5.5 and 10 inches. As you can see the two packages are very similar with just a few personalised features. On the Bermuda package to echo the dotty embossing I used an oval framelit to create a curved edge to the front flap. While on the Indigo stripe embossed package I just rounded the flap corners. Twine threaded through the three layers of cardstock holds the packages closed. To dress them up I added some fun and fancy bits first water colouring up some cute little chicks and then finishing with some colour coordinating flags, sequins and sentiment.

Hope you can join us this week. Do go and check out the rest of the DT for lots of fabulous 'E' ideas.

Kim

JAI #302 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
well we are still sweltering here but thankfully with the aid of air conditioning (and some time on the weekend) it was possible to sit somewhere coolish and craft! The cooler tones of the new Just Add Ink challenge this week - Just add a colour combo, suggested by Jan, might help other equally hot Aussies cool down too. Here are the colours.

This is what I came up with.

The two purples are pretty bold so I tried to balance them out with lots of neutral tones. I also stamped both shades off to try and get more colour variation to use. Then it was just a question of die cutting lots of flowers and then playing around with the floral arrangements until I was happy. There has to be some shimmer and shine, so I embossed my sentiment and added tiny flowers punched from Shimmer White cardstock and then a scattering of pearls to finish.

The DT have lots of beautiful inspiration for you so do check them out! Hope you can join us.

JAI #301 Just add numbers

Hello there,
this week at Just Add Ink Nikki has challenged us to Just Add Numbers. As it turned out that was an easy challenge for me to work with as I still had a birthday card to make for my sweet Mr 7. Who has been excited all year about the idea of becoming Mr 8 (ok maybe he was more excited about the birthday party bit ;) Here's what I came up with.

Just to cover my bases on the number front - I added some more to the inside.

My little guy is pretty super so it was an easy decision to colour up a super boy for him. Even easier was the background (all patterned paper!) To give the frame some dimension I cut three layers and adhered them together with glue, then laid it over the patterned paper background.

There are all sorts of occasions you can add numbers. Check out the rest of the JAI DT for some great ideas. Hope you can join us.

Kim
