JAI #281 Just add your three favourite colours

Hello there,
another week has flown by and having survived a busy weekend I did, only just, manage to finish off this card in time for this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week Di has challenged us to Just Add your three favourite colours. Besides your pick of three colours you can also add in neutrals. It's a fun challenge but one I think you need to give some thought to before you plunge in.

I'm a blue/green girl at heart so I had a think and I came up with the combo of Pool Party, Island Indigo and Crumb Cake. Here's what I made with them.

I have a lot of male family birthdays this time of year and for this one I wanted to capture a fresh clean and simple scene. I started by brayering Crumb Cake in from the bottom and Pool Party from the top. Then I added a little stamped detail over the top of the Crumb Cake. To frame the scene I layered over a diecut. Got to admit I love how this broke the scene into a series of windows. To finish it off I added a sentiment banner, using my third colour  - Island Indigo - and a little Indigo bird (and a scatter of clear sequins). As this is a boy card I tried to keep the bling really restrained but I had to add something!

Hope you can join us for this fun challenge. Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT to see what they made with their three favourite colours.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #280 Just add glimmer

Hello there,
what a change a week makes! Last week it was still chilly (I was buying scarves!) and this week we have warm breezes floating through the house. It won't last long but oh my I'll enjoy it and the promise of summer to come. During the week I seized a quiet moment to finish off colouring a flower for this weeks Just Add Ink challenge. This week Nikki wants you to Just Add Glimmer. Glimmer paper ideally but think lots of glittery, shimmer and shine.

As soon as I saw the new black glimmer paper in the SU! Holiday catalogue I knew I had to use it.

The flower and the glimmer leaves were going to dominate the card front so I wanted to keep the mat underneath white but I also wanted to add some subtle texture. Embossing the striped scallop thinlet turned out to be the perfect solution. Then it was a simple process to put all the base layers on and add the flower, sentiment and sequins. Now that I've finally got to the point of finishing this it will be in the post quick smart as it's a very late birthday card!

Hope you can join us this week and don't forget to check out the glimmer filled inspiration from the rest of the DT.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #279 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
I've been trying to avoid the fact but Christmas is rapidly starting to approach. I don't even want to think of how many few weeks it is! So expect to see a few more Christmas cards popping up here. Which explains why that when I saw this weeks Just Add Ink challenge the first thing I thought of was Christmas card. This week we have a Just Add Sketch challenge from Narelle.
The first thing I thought of when I saw that circle element was shaker card!

The next thought was - penguin is a snow storm!

So I embossed a flurry of snowflakes and then pulled out inks and brayer and got inky :) For my shaker I started by colouring my penguin adding a sprinkling of snowflakes around him and then piled on a mix of sequins and glitter and closed up the shaker. (Do you hold your breath when you do that? I do!).

Hope you can join in this week. Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT's take on the sketch.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #278 Just add inspiration

Hello there,
the colourful challenge we have for you at Just Add Ink this week feels so appropriate as the winter grey/brown hues have been lifted by the blooming of cherry trees here this week. It's so heartening to feel just a touch of warmth in the air! And what is our challenge this week? It's Just Add Inspiration from Nikki. Just check out that colour!

I had to do something equally as colourful!

As a contrast to all that colour I wanted to make my one defined flower - colourless. And had a lot of fun trying out a new (to me) masking technique. But I did want to fill the card with colour so out came a stencil and my reinkers and I got to work splashing on colour. What I did find when I removed the stencil was that the colour was very much restricted to the pattern. But that was easy to remedy  - I just swished my paint brush over and blended the colours together with a little water.

The bright colours of the flowers just make me happy! Hope you can join in with us this week. Do check out the rest of the DT and their wonderful creations.

Kim
