Just Add Ink Swap Blog Hop

Hi everyone,
well welcome to a special event that the JAI team are running - a blog hop. There are 14 stops on the hop (Just Add Ink and the 13 design team members) you can start anywhere as the hop goes in a loop. So why are we hopping? Well back in August one of the JAI team came up with the fun idea of doing a swap among the design team. The idea being to use as much material (colours and stamps) from the new catalogue that was to be released on Sept 1. Which, once the swaps were exchanged would give us all some wonderful examples of what you can do with the new goodies. So we each made mulitple copies of our card and sent them off to the rest of the team. Now when I started thinking about what I wanted to do - an idea popped into my head - and I just had to run with it. Well let me show you the end result.

So what popped into my head?? Well the idea for the background. Any guesses how I did that?? Ah well I won't keep you in suspense :) I used one of the inchie stamps from the Level 2 hostess set Cute by the Inch. The important thing is to worked out the centre of the Crumb Cake mat, mark that and stamp out from there. With each subsequent stamp linking together to make the pattern. It was time consuming but once I had tried it and liked the effect I had to do it!! The Crumb Cake mat was layered onto a Marina Mist mat and then onto the Whisper White base. Over the Crumb Cake mat I added a wide strip of cardstock vellum to which I added a central glittered strip. The vellum was fixed the Crumb Cake layer with four silver brads. In the centre of the card I cut a Marina Mist decorative tag, layered that with a wide oval stamped with one of the gorgeous ornate wreaths from Style Beautiful (in Early Expresso) then up on dimensionals added the friend sentiment in Marina Mist. The inside was finished off simply to match.

It turned out quite elegant I think - kind of a clean modern take on vintage! Definitely something fun to experiment with.

JAI 34 - just add a colour combo

welcome back for another Just Add Ink challenge! This week its a colour combo. Here's the colour pick.


Boy oh boy did I struggle with this colour combo! Crumb cake is not a colour I work easily with although I'm improving and I can see that it works well with strong colours but with pastels!!! Yikes!! So I ended up going simple and I hope a little stylish.



I started with a Crumb cake base, stamped the little vine flourish twice in versamark, above and below the bottom right hand corner. Then in from the top left hand corner I stamped the sentiment and white embossed it. Its important to do this before you do the next step - or you'll end up with white powder sticking to your versamark frame! Next using a ruler and the new Versamarker I drew a frame connecting the two vine flourishes. One thing I would recommend is to use a very light hand, use more than the absolutely miniumum pressure and you'll get a thick chunky line. Next I stamped several of the large and smaller flower from Vintage Vogue in Pretty in Pink and So Saffron on Whisper White. Trimmed those out and then layered them up with dimensionals, adding a large pearl to the centre top to finish. Then I added some small pearls to the vine flourishes and finished off the inside to match.

Inkspirations Sketch Challenge 27 - DT card

Hi there,

well I'm delighted to be back today posting my guest design team card for Makeesha Byl's weekly challenge (see link at bottom). If you play along with this weeks challenge you too have the chance to get selected as the next guest designer. So what is this weeks challenge - well it's a sketch.


Here's what I came up with....


And of course I finished off the inside to match - with a bit of a grotto for the unicorn to emerge from.

Well given I had made a boys birthday card for the last challenge I decided to go girly today. I actually bought Pony Party "for" my daughter, not me, well that was my excuse at the time ;) but hadn't inked it up yet. Somehow it was rather daunting to approach. But once again an idea struck me as I was putting Mr 2 to bed. Yes I know this is a reoccuring theme - but its dark and quiet and relaxing and somehow that really works as thinking time for me. So I knew I was going to try working with Pony Party and I wanted to go pink and chocolate, with flowers and glitter. First I started with a Regal Rose base and stamped the floral vine from Vintage Vogue all around the border. Next I picked out the DSP I wanted to use for the sketch panels, layered them up on Chocolate Chip, then got out my sewing machine then using "chocolate" thread stitched a border around them. Because the main DSP pattern had a very white background I couldn't use watercolour paper for the pony, so Stazon on Whisper White it was. I tried colouring the image in with both watercolour wonder crayons and ink from the ink pad lids and ended up going with the ink pad lid version. The pony was finished off a rim of pale Going Gray, trimmed to size and then stitched with pink thread about three sides. Once mounted on a Regal Rose and scalloped Chocolate matte I then added Dazzling Diamonds to horn, mane and hoof. The final touches for the front were the sentiment panel, using matching DSP and an embossed greeting and of course the gorgeous little chocolate flower buttons tied with pink thread bows. The inside was finished off to match.

Convention Swaps

Hi all,

yep back again. Just a little late in getting my post convention post up!!

Wow well what an experience, I have got to say my first impression was of being overwhelmed - so many excited women talking and swapping. I recognised some and got to meet some special people - waving hi to Linda (you won't have realised but you got my first swap ever - and yours was my first swap!!) , Sarah Jane and Kirsty. It blew me away that a few people recognised me!!(Hi Natasha - thanks for saying hi :) Overwhelming as I said but really nice.

Before I go any further I want to say hello to some lovely ladies I got to meet and spend time with at Convention. First my sideline Krysta - it was really fun to share this experience with you.


Then some friends of a dear friend who gladly adopted Krysta and I - waving a big hi to Di, Leanne, Kelly, Cathy and Anamaria. Here's a picture of us with Shelli. Yep I'm in a picture with Shelli - it just spins me out saying that - its so surreal.


Finally I also want to send out a hello to Sharnee and Carli these two were real fun to share a table with for the make and take session - even sleep deprived (- I'm sure you've read the two time fire alarm story on lots of blogs).

Thanks to the above ladies (to me the most important thing about convention is the people - I loved all the creative ideas, general sessions, memento hall, the dinner and awards (the Fijian dance troupe was amazing!!) I had a wonderful first convention experience and am looking forward to going to Melbourne in 2011 to catch up with "old" friends and meet some of the other talented people I only glimpsed this time.

Hop to it for an ESAD Mothers Day Blog Hop

Good Morning everyone!
I hope you’re ready for the ESAD Blog Hop! Better go grab yourself a cuppa as you’ll be hopping for a while!

What is ESAD you say?
ESAD stands for Extra Special Australian (and New Zealand) Demonstrators and it is an online group just for Australian and New Zealand demonstrators for Stampin’ Up!
We so love what we do and not only do we love to share it with our customers, friends and wonderful blog visitors but we share our love for what we do with each other as Demonstrators. We run swaps, challenges, tutorials, product know how and cyberstamps and we are always there to help and support each other when its needed.

OK lets get started. I put together a few little things using alot of the lucious new goodies in the new SU! Autumn/ Winter mini catalogue. First up a little bird house into which you can tuck a little gift.

I have CASEd this idea from the talented Jo Wimbourne in the UK. She even included a tutorial on her blog running you through how to construct it. I wanted to use the new Cottage Wall DSP so I started off making the bird house base from Orchid Opulence, then added a roof of Old Olive, decorated with Cottage Wall roofing, sponged on the scalloped edges with Old Olive. Special little embellishment touches include stamping the window sheet with the little flower from Cheep Talk in White Stazon. Of course I used the new bird punch to decorate the front. (So fun to use) Old Olive for the branch, the bird in Rich Razzleberry, with a white layer to highlight it and its wing in DSP to match the roof. Lastly another flower inked in Orchid Opulence and rock and rolled in Razzleberry with an Old Olive brad. The final touch a little library clip to hold the roof on with a knot of the new dotty Razzleberry ribbon. The bird house is just the right size to tuck in some buttons or perhaps chocolate coated coffee beans. Hmmm which one will it be?

To go with the bird house I made a fun card using the new scallop circle die. I just love how simple it is to cut some folded cardstock with the die - and you have a card just like magic!!




Once again I started with an Orchid Opulence base, cut the card with my scallop die, then tucked the front into the new SU! Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder. OK next step was to stamp six petals with the new A Little Treat set in Rich Razzleberry. Then punch a 1 3/4 inch circle in the card front so I could slip through a sweet treat cup. I partially filled the cup with a selection of beads, raided with permission from my Miss 5's bead collection. I sealed up the back, with some Whisper White stamped with little Orchid and Razzleberry flowers, covered over on the inside with a larger circle of Orchid Opulence to blend in the front. Ok back to the front, I SNAILed the six petals into place evenly around the sweet treat cup. To give the flower some ompf I also stamped six of the little leaves from the set in Old Olive, slipped their ends into the 1 3/4 inch circle punch so I could fit them around the cup on the petal intersections, mounted up on dimensionals. Some Old Olive ribbon tied round near the fold with a little sentiment tag fastened on finish off the front.
I have one last piece - a little bag I made using the scallop circle die and the new Vintage Vogue set. I'm rather proud of this one as I came up with the idea of how to make it myself (although I'm sure it must have been done before).

This time I used the new in colour Melon Mambo (so very nice). I started by cutting some folded MM with the scallop circle die, then I scored and folded the cardstock two scallops in from either side of the original fold. Into this cradle of sorts I inserted a little box of Pumpkin Pie just small enough that you can't see it round the scalloped sides. (Well unless you look side on ;) Before I sticky striped everything together I rolled the Mambo cardstock with Mambo ink using the Very Vintage wheel. It has a gorgeous vintage pattern but I figure that is no reason to not use it with bright colours too. The handle is an A4 length of Mambo scalloped down both sides and also rolled with Very Vintage. I attached that to the sides using the round tab punch, a pumpkin flower and a Designer flower brad. Lastly I decorated the front with flowers and leaves from Vintage Vogue stamped in Pumpkin Pie, Melon Mambo and Old Olive.
