JAI #361 Choose Two

Hello there,
ooh so exciting! We get to do watercoloring this week at Just Add Ink! Watercoloring is one of our Just Choose Two options for the new challenge. Kelly suggested a fun combo for us!

I tried my hand at no-line watercoloring again. It turned out..ok..even a little nice but I think I have some development to go. But that's ok. I kind of like the idea even, cause it means I can do more watercoloring which is a really zen-like peaceful thing to do!

I did pike out of no-line watercoloring my flower on the inside though.

I did fuss around (quite a lot) with how I was going to present my water coloured flower. I wanted it to be the focus, so didn't want to add too many distractions, but at the same time I wanted to frame it a little. The perfect solution turned out to be some delicate vellum leaves (inspired by the ones peeping out from Patrice's lovely flower card for last week's Just Add Ink challenge).

Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT's fun Choose Two projects and then come back and show us what you chose!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #360 Sketch

Hello there,
between work and lots of visitors its been flat out around here so it was soooo exciting when I finally got the time this past week to get out the new In Colors and play!! Got to say I am loving these new colours. The work so well together! What was I working on? Well the new challenge at Just Add Ink this week of course;)  This week we want you to Just Add a Sketch from Narelle.
Here's the sketch.

And here is what I came up with.

I really like the new Lovely Inside and Out set so it was a pleasure to use it. I knew I wanted to use it as a negative diecut from the main panel. So first I prepped my panel by brayering a colour wash over it and adding tone on tone flowers, then I die cut my window out. Accenting that with a flower was just what I need to match with the sketch perfectly! To finish it off I used lot of gold - thread, sequins, embossing!

Don't forget to go check out the rest of the DT's gorgeous creations and then show us what you can do with the sketch!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #359 Inspiration

Hello there,
Mother's Day is this weekend. So my task this week was to make Mother's day cards (one for my Mum and one for my MIL). With that in mind the challenge this week at Just Add Ink was just perfect to help me on my way. The fact that I picked the inspiration pic for our Just Add Inspiration challenge is just pure co-incidence ;)

Here's the inspiration pic. You can use the colours, patterns, or objects from the inspiration picture for your project. This is what I came up with.

For this butterfly I used Powder Pink, Melon Mambo and Berry Burst.

But wait there's more ;)
This one is for my MIL. She has a real thing for more peachy/ salmon colours so for her version I used Flirty Flamingo for the base and Powder Pink, Flirty Flamingo and Berry Burst for the butterfly.

Both of these are pretty straightforward. Brayer a gradient background (for me that was capturing the change from dark to light in the inspiration photo). Splatter some gold flecks on it and add a few tiny faint butterflies. The one point to note is that I stamped my butterflies on watercolor paper and to really enhance the watercolour feel went over the stamped images with my aqua painter. That pulled the ink out and created some lovely cloudy colour merging effects. Lots of vellum and gold accents finish the cards off.

Do you need a Mother's Day card or just a flower inspired card for a friend. Then join us in the challenge this week. But before you do check out the rest of the DT's beautiful creations.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #358 Stitching

Well hello there,
life has been non-stop for the last few weeks. Even with the school routine starting it didn't slow down, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will next week though! Luckily, I had the perfect project for this week's new Just Add Ink challenge ready to share. This was one of the samples I made for my Product Spotlight presentation at the SU! OnStage event back in April. I promise I will get around to blogging the others soon! This week the challenge, from Rochelle, is to Just Add Stitching (Real or Faux).

I finished my presentation with two stepped up projects that showed how to use the new Color Theory suite with other SU! sets. I love to pull out the sewing machine so stitching was featured on both cards. Here's the first using stitching as an accent.

The inside. Eeek the colour is completely off in my inside shot, but then again I took the photo at 7 am on a wintery Autumn morning!

Now I get to show you my other project. This time using stitching to add a vellum layer, and I couldn't resist adding some glimmer faux sequins too to create a shaker element.

Anyone wondering how I got the leaf vein effect (there is no vein stamp for the smaller leaf in Colorful Seasons)? First ink up your little leaf stamp, then kiss it to the large leaf vein detail stamp. That takes the ink off your little leaf in a perfect vein pattern!! I was very chuffed to discover this!!! One point to note is that it works better if you have less ink on your little leaf rather than more.

Stitching whether it real or faux adds such great texture and detail to your projects, hope you can join us this week and show us how you have used stitching. Don't forget to check out the rest of the DTs awesome stitching projects too.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
