JAI 229 Just add inspiration

Hello there,
well its been a busy week here, it started when we caught up with some friends visiting for the weekend (I cooked up a breakfast feast of pancakes, strawberries and ice cream (but wait there's more) and bacon and eggs too). My taste buds enjoyed it all but it took two walks in the spring sunshine till my tummy felt as though it had recovered! How is the week ending? well with a new Just Add Ink challenge - of course :O. This week Nikki came up with a really colourful challenge for you - we want you to Just Add Inspiration.

As soon as I saw the pictures I knew it was going to be perfect for my new peacock stamp. The art in my DD room needs updating (the first one I made her was castle/princess themed) and she has a real passion for birds. Here's how it turned out.

And a close up to see it better

And one from the side to capture the gleam of gold on each feather

I checked out quite a few peacock images before I started colouring and I loved the variety of colours you could see because of the iridescent feathers. But for this first one I decided to go accurate rather than artistic. I used alcohol markers and I will say in all honesty it took me hours but as I was doing it on a day when I was suffering from a nasty cold bug I had plenty of time to sit and just slowly colour away. The only addition after colouring was a tiny touch of gold leaf pen to each of the peacock feathers.

Now I just need to get to work on updating the art work for DS!

Hope you can join us for this fun inspiration challenge - do check out the rest of the DT for some wonderful eye candy!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 228 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
well its been another busy week here BUT finally no one was sick this week - maybe winter is on its way out! We actually have flowers in the garden here so spring must be on the way too although the temperatures don't reflect it yet. So in the spirit of spring, and cause it gives me the chance to play with some more new stampin stuff ;) I have another flower card for you. This week at Just Add Ink we have a colour challenge for you from me! Here it is.

I got to play with my new photopolymer background stamp set - love it!!

Another week where I can't get the colour balance right for the inside!!! (Grrr)

I started out intending the card to be vertical but by happenstance had turned my gradient background horizontal and in one instant the layout changed. To do something different with the Blended Bloom flower I decided to step it up this week by colouring extra layers lifting them up with dimensionals. I trimmed out some stamped off leaves too for one side of the flower and added flags on the other side to balance it all out.

Hope you can join us this week and take the colours for a test drive. Do check out the rest of the DT for some fabulous inspiration.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 227 Just Add Chipboard

Hello there,
ever since we had our Just Add a Shaker challenge a few weeks back I've had shakers in the back of my mind and when a special family birthday was coming up I figured the new Miss Four would love to have one. I did use something special in the making - chipboard. And that is what we want you to add at Just Add Ink this week - Just Add chipboard.

(Chipboard is a thick cardboard. You find it on the back of notepads, its the backing in your DSP packets, and can buy chipboard accents and alphabets. Coaster board and even multiple layers of cardstock glued together will be just as good).

Now I did a good job of disguising my chipboard so I wanted to include a couple of photos to show you how I used it here. First die cut and embossed.
And then covered with a layer of die cut and embossed cardstock.

Bright and fun and something to use for my shaker frame were the starting points - enter Sweet Taffy DSP and On Film framelit. I cut up some crazy strips of the DSP to cover the front of the card and then proceeded to cover most of that up (rolling my eyes at my good planning) with the die cut frame. The bright continues on into the shaker - with some stamped HAPPYs and lots of bright die cut Number Fours (too many actually - I'm always tempted to add to many shakey bits!). I'm pretty the new Miss Four is going to love this and also know she is going to have to shake it really hard to get the bits to move around :O

For lots of inspiring ideas for using chipboard do check out the rest of the DT.

JAI 226 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well this week was delightfully peaceful which was a nice change from the previous one that was filled with the kids taking turns with allergic reactions and tummy bugs - urg! The sun has come out too which almost makes me feel like its spring except for the fact that we've woken to super frosty mornings. The challenge this week at Just Add Ink to Just Add a Sketch was just perfect for a flowery springy card (one can hope). Here's the sketch.

And here is what I made of it.

The inside (ick I just couldn't get the colour balance right on this one!)

My original colour choice was a blue/crumb cake palette (just perfect for the friend it was intended for) and then found I needed to add the red to make it all pop. I had fun putting it together, playing around with the flowers till I was happy with the arrangement and adding lots of texture with ribbon, twine, buttons, rhinestones and candy dots.

Hopefully you'll find the sketch as user friendly as I did. Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT for some great inspiration!

JAI 225 Just add a colour combo

Hello everyone,
did you get into the Christmas spirit last week? On the home front we are right in the midst of winter germs at the moment - no fun at all! But I have used some of the occasions I've been laid up on the couch to do some colouring which I've enjoyed.

The challenge we have for you this week at Just Add Ink was perfect for it as this week we want you to Just Add a Colour Combo. Patrice came up with this very classy combination. Do check out the rest of the JAI DT for some stunning inspiration and join us in farewelling Susan who is leaving us to take on the exciting challenge of being on the SU! Artisan DT for the next year!

Really the star of this show is the flower - and while a grey rose sounds rather strange - I think it does look rather lovely! I added only a few supporting details the embossed panel, a sentiment tab, some background stamping, a button and some ribbon/twine. I do love my little details and can't resist adding a few or a lot!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
