Just Add Ink #684 Colour

Hello there,
well with Christmas almost upon us. We have one more challenge for you this week at Just Add Ink. Rochelle has asked us all to add traditional Christmas colours.

I make a gift card holder for each of the nieces and nephews each year for Christmas. This week was the perfect challenge to make them. They are always same, same but different, so each one gets something just a little bit individualised. Here's how they turned out this year.

The holders were very simple, a strip of card stock, scored twice. One side folded over and adhered just on the edges to make a pocket for the gift card, then the remaining side folds to close it. To keep them closed I made belly bands embellished with shiny sprigs, snowflakes and ribbon.

The Just Add Ink DT have a some gorgeous projects to show you, so please go check them out, and then share yours! Thanks so much for joining us this year we love seeing all the projects you share with us!

This challenge will run for two weeks, so you can also share your projects after Christmas when you have more time. It will close on January 3rd. There will be no winner's post for this challenge just the opportunity to share your work and inspire others.

The Just Add Ink team will be back next year with our annual blog hop on January 19, 2024. Till then wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #682 Sketch

Hello,
time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week Tina is asking us to Just Add a Sketch. Here it is.

I decided to bring you a very non-traditional Christmas card filled with a rainbow of bright colour.

Once the colouring was done, and the image fussy cut out, this was quite quick to put together.

All the background needed was a splatter of white paint and Wink of Stella, a strip of glimmer paper layered with ribbon and twine through the middle to reflect the sketch, a scatter of sequins and it was done!

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of great projects to show you so please go check them and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #680 Alcohol

Hello,
time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week Kerry is giving us something different and asking us to....

It has been a while since I've done any colouring, so I seized my chance to pull out my alcohol markers - SU! Blends - and play with the very cute Festive and Fun stamp set.

This pretty much turned out as I envisioned :) which was to have the pile of presents as bright pops of colour against the 'sky'. Once the colouring was done the rest was die cutting and a bit of fussy cutting.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of fun and fabulous projects for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Just Add Ink #678 Choose Two

Hello there,
this week at Just Add Ink its time for a Choose Two challenge from Nikki.

Pick two of the above options and feature them in your project. I decided to go with Brights and Foliage and make a non-traditional coloured Christmas card.

The main effort for this card was in 1) the stamping 2) using a fine line marker to outline the stamped images and 3) fussy cutting all the foliage pieces out. That was definitely a job to do while watching a movie one night! To assemble, I die cut a foliage design into the background and heat embossed the sentiment, then layered the multicoloured foliage to radiate out from around the sentiment.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of lovely projects for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Just Add Ink #676 Inspiration

Hello there,
time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week it is an inspiration challenge from me! Here's the inspiration picture. Use the objects, colours or patterns in the picture to inspire, and feature, in your project.

This is what I came up with.

First I dug through my stash to find B&W DSP that matched the inspiration photo, then woodgrain embossed my base mat (which is unfortunately not very visible in the photos). Next I pulled out a stack of different ink colours and set about playing with the SU! Abundant Beauty decorative masks -  they are super easy to use! An evening fussy cutting while watching a movie saw me with a pile of flowers and leaves to layer together to create that bright orange floral pop of colour. A scatter of tiny gold sequins finished it all off.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of lovely projects for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Kim

Just Add Ink #674 Colour

Hello there,
time for a new challenge over at Just Add Ink and this week Rochelle has a bold colour combination for us to play with. Here it is.

I decided to see if I could get the colours to work for a Christmas card - I think I succeeded!

I played around with graduations of colour for this project. For the sentiment panel I used reinkers to layer strips of colour on a wet wipe and them used that as an ink pad for the large sentiment. On the background mat I used a snowflake stencil and blended Berry Burst and Pretty Peacock ink over a Fresh Freesia base. When I started I honestly wasn't sure if this mix of colours was going to work but by the end I was feeling pretty happy with how it turned out. The gold accents add that essential bit of Christmas bling.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of colour inspired projects for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Just Add Ink #670 Wildlife

Hello there,
time for a new challenge from Just Add Ink, and this week Fiona is asking us to Just Add Wildlife. So pull out your animal stamps and feature something wild on your project.

I've had a sloth stamp set languishing in my stash for a while now and I thought this was the perfect time to pull it out.

I kept things pretty simple this week. Just some simple blending for the background, then adding the coloured and die cut elements on top. Some subtle embossed texture, stitching detail and a little fold of ribbon add some extra interest.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of fabulous projects for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Just Add Ink #668 Choose Two

Hello there,
it's time for a new challenge from Just Add Ink. This week Lou has given us a Choose Two challenge. It may prove the perfect source of inspiration for you if it is Father's day soon in your part of the globe, but it's equally as versatile for any type of project. Just Choose Two of the three options and feature them in your project. Here are your choices.

Several male family members have birthdays this time of year so I used my two choices - timber and twine - to make a masculine birthday card.

This combines two of my favourite techniques for masculine cards - dry and heat embossing. I even doubled it up on the timber background, with random smeared white heat embossed patches over the dry embossing. There was more embossing to create a background for my landscape vignette, for which I layered die cut trees, grounding them with some mountains. The twine added that last element of rustic texture.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of lovely projects for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Just Add Ink #666 Inspiration

Hello there,
it's time for the new challenge from Just Add Ink and this week Jan has an inspiration challenge for us. It definitely has a winter vibe but you don't have to go with that theme. Just use the colours, objects or patterns from the inspiration picture below and feature them in your project.

I, however, did go with a wintery vibe. I took several elements from the inspiration picture - colours, the snowy tree background, lots of white to contrast with bright colours.

This project was all about die cutting - lots and lots of trees - and ink blending to add pops of colour. I added texture in a couple of ways. First by dry embossing all the trees with a subtle texture and then by adding splatters to the ink blended elements.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of fabulous projects for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Just Add Ink #664 Colour

Hello,
time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink and this week Di is asking us to Just Add a Colour Combo. Here it is.

And this is how my project turned out.

I thought the colours leant towards an aquatic theme, so using a combination of ink blending, stamping and heat embossing I created an underwater scene. Then filled it with a turtle swimming through sea weed and coral. The overall feel is peaceful and muted which I rather liked.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of inspiration for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Just Add Ink #662 Sketch

Hello there,
while the sun was streaming through the windows keeping the house toasty warm last weekend I got to work on my Just Add Ink challenge project for this weeks challenge - to Just Add a Sketch from Lou. Here's the sketch.

And this is how my project turned out.

I was aiming for a light fresh feel to the colours. To achieve this I settled on some pink hues and lighter greens. Watercoloring panels of watercolour paper with my chosen inks also allowed me to the keep tones lighter. Once the panels dried it was all about the die cutting and then arranging and layering up the flowers and foliage. To add interest to the background, that wouldn't detract from the flowers, I added embossed texture and splattered flecks of pink and green ink. I generally tend to gravitate to silver for my metallic accents but on this occasion somehow gold seemed to be the better fit. So a scatter of gold sequins and a hint of gold foil to accent the sentiment finished the project off.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of inspiration for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Kim
