JAI 115 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
there has been a bit more toe dipping this week as well as some nice walks on the beach, well there was before the weather closed in! However while I've enjoyed the change it will be nice to get home.

Now on to this weeks Just Add Ink challenge, this week we have a sketch for you. Here it is.

I knew life was going to be hectic once we got back so I prepared this one (or should I say two) ahead so I was already for Mothers Day in early May. I rotated the sketch 90 degrees and then mirror imaged it. Here's the outcome.

I started with the idea of making the flowers. I seen a few recently on the blog a lovely friend Di Barnes here. She mentioned using three layers each of fancy flower, triple doily and boho blossom punches. I used three different colours for each flower. Secured them together with a vintage brad and then liberally sprayed with platinum shimmer mist, scrunching the layers up to give the flowers shape. Then set them aside to dry. The top layer of the cards are portioned as one third DSP and one third white impressed cardstock. With the separation being covered by pleated lace (secured with sticky strip) and ribbon. The white section was also stamped with some flowering swirls, embellished with some little blossoms, that lead the eye to the sentiment. The flower was partially laid over the DSP and stamped swirls and I finished it all off with a few little leafy sprigs. To be honest I found this sketch to be another challenging one!

Kim

JAI 114 Just add Jodene Tripp

Hello there,
well I've been dipping my toes in the Great Southern Ocean today and I do mean dipping. That's as far as I get but the kids are happy to splash around till they are blue!! But before I headed south I did get this weeks Just Add Ink challenge done - and it is....Just add Jodene Tripp one of my wonderful design team mates. So go and have a browse of Jodene's blog - she will not fail to inspire you! Find something you like and CASE it adding your spin to it. Here is Jodene's card which I picked to CASE.

I loved the clean lines and classic design of this card and how the image and sentiment were recessed with the ribbon laid over the top. So now my spin on it.

I figured it was time to add another girly birthday card to my stash so I went bright. I pulled out some Daffodil Delight for the base. My cupcake was a bit fiddly to be honest. The actual stamp has a little arm hugging it, so I did a little bit of selective inking and then reconstruction with a fine black marker. Then I coloured it in with copic markers, finishing the top off with glitter and crystal effects on the cherry. Because of all that fiddling I didn't stamp the image directly onto the white mat, but instead trimmed it out.  The sentiment was stamped direct to the white mat. Next using a die I cut the window out of the upper pink mat. Then I ran it through my Big Shot with an impression plate (the same one Jodene used). That pink mat was mounted up on dimensionals above the white mat and satin Daffodil ribbon was knotted over the pink mat. The inside was finished off with another cupcake :) Is one ever really enough ;)

This one got my Miss 7's approval despite having just said the day before that she didn't like yellow anymore! I figure even big girls might like this too ;)

Do go and check out Jodene's wonderful creations and have yourself some fun this week!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 113 Just add inspiration

Hello there,
I hope everyone had a good Easter with some time to relax and bit of chocolate on the side too ;) I can assure you that some chocolate was definitely consumed in our household and there is still more to go. Needless to say the kids love it. Although I think they enjoyed hunting for their eggs as much as eating them.

Right on to this weeks Just Add Ink challenge - the week we have an inspiration challenge for you, have look at the image below.
First up those chairs caught my eye, the colours and the striped carpet - so putting that all together I came up with this.

I started with my lounge chair, by stamping an outline image on DSP then trimming it out. I added some shading using copic markers and then mounted it on dimensionals. Adding a button as a cushion. Once I knew where the chair was going to be I could add the first half of the sentiment and the pile of books topped with steaming cuppa.  Once that medallion was done I could mount that over the vertical vanilla strip. (Having already added part two of the sentiment and the stitching detail). A bit of ribbon and some more stitching finish off the base. The inside was finished off to match. With a cat taking the chance to have a snooze on the chair now ;) It's a bit of a different birthday card but I hope the recipient will like it.

Hope you get the chance to be inspired this week - and see where it takes up - we will certainly enjoy seeing the outcome :)

Kim

JAI 112 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
well welcome its time for a new Just Add Ink
challenge. This week we have a lovely colour combo for you. My thoughts on first sight were elegant and delicate. Here it is.
I broke out a bunch of new stamping goodies for this one. Some brank spanking new and others have been waiting for months - eek! to get used.
Side view of butterfly layers - colour is a bit better in this one too
Very simple on the inside - tend to do that with single layer card
This kind of evolved from the idea of layering a butterfly onto the doily. I also wanted it to be something special since it was going to a dear friend for her birthday. So I cut lots and lots and lots of white tissue butterflies and added those underneath the stamped butterfly die cut. Then stitched some linen thread through all the layers to secure them adding a button to top it all off. The rest of the card is pretty simple. A stamped background on the bottom, a Crumb Cake layer emerging from under doily stamped with the sentiment and a little ribbon detail right at the top. I had a lot of fun playing with new stuff and was pretty happy with how it came together too!

Given the Easter break hopefully you'll get the chance to try the colour combo out too. It might prove a soothing counterpoint to any family members a bit hyped up after eating too much chocolate this coming weekend ;)

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter

Kim
