JAI #260 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well myself and many of the Just Add Ink design team have an exciting week ahead of us this week as we are all heading to the SU! South Pacific Inspire, Create and Share event (aka convention) (Big smile). Because we are going to be  - just a little busy next week :o - we are going to run the new Just Add Ink challenge for two weeks.  This week we want you to Just Add a Sketch  - a real classic from Narelle.

Here's what I came up with.

It has been a while since I've play with my Spiral flower die so I pulled it out and made something a little bold and bright to really shine against the neutral vintagey background. As you can imagine this turned out very dimensional - but luckily I was able to hand deliver it (in a big envelope) with promises it will not be opened till Mother's Day.

Remember you have two weeks to play along with the sketch (close date 6th May) - so I hope you can join us. Do go check out all the DT projects - they are inspiring!!

And I might add so are the DT girls - I'm really looking forward to catching it with lots of the team in just another 4 sleeps!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI# 259 Just add sequins

Hello there,
well I have survived the first week of the school holidays - always a good place to end up ;) The week started with me taking my two plus one to the zoo and ended up with a day of grandparent entertainment - I wish I could say I was relaxing while they were otherwise occupied but no such luck - just too many things on my to do list!!

One thing I did get off my to do list was this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have have a fun challenge from Patrice to Just Add Sequins (not just one or two but lots!!).

Here's what I came up with.

I have quite a few pink loving friends so with pinkness in mind this is what I came up with. To glam up the pink (Melon Mambo - it's rather hard to get this shade to photograph right - grrr) I added gold into the mix. I figured for a fun (pink) birthday card I couldn't go wrong with lots of dotty confetti and then using some of those as a guide adhered gold sequins over. A big sentiment and some sweet trimmings (more sequins!) finish it all off.

Hope you can join us for this fun challenge. Do check out the rest of the DT for lots of great ideas for incorporating sequins into your design.

Kim

Just Add Ink #258 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
well it's mixed feelings here today as school holidays start. Half of me is happy - delighted with the break in routine (no lunch boxes!) but the other half is already exhausted knowing that I have to keep the munchkins entertained for two weeks - eeeek! But before the onslaught begins it's time to tell you about this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have a gorgeous colour challenge for you from Rochelle. You'll enjoy it for sure! Here's the colours.

And here is what I came up with.

I finally got to break out a new flower set that had been sitting in a pile of stamps for months - no joke! I love the impact of this botanical style image. I thought the little flower from Petite Petals was a great match to accent that main flower too. To add some depth I wanted to stamp some flowers direct on the DSP but didn't want them to compete with the punched flowers on top. So I broke out some gesso and brushed it over the DSP and stamped flowers. (I discovered in the process that you need to heat set your stamped flowers BEFORE you paint over the gesso!). I was pretty happy with the way this turned out. Just a simple mix of ink, DSP and gesso but a lot of fun to do.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT's gorgeous creations this week.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #257 Just add inspiration

Hello there,
things are going to be a bit crazy around here soon with first Easter and then school holidays and I just know that before I turn around it will be May and Mother's Day here. So I decided to try and get myself sorted ahead of time! Our new challenge this week at Just Add Ink proved perfect for it too! This week we want you to Just Add Inspiration, Narelle picked out the great images for us this week. You can pick whatever inspires you from the image - the colours, any or all parts or patterns in the image.

Here's what I came up with.

As you can see I picked up on the jar of flowers, the gorgeous earthy muted tones and added a little touch of lace. Adding the texty DSP was to me the perfect compliment to this muted vintage feeling creation. I'm pretty sure my MIL will like this one :)

Hope you can join us for the challenge this week. Do go check out the rest of the DT's inspired inspiration creations!

Kim
