JAI 220 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well I have a another very spring like card today probably to counter the mid winter dark and cold we are having right now. Was so darn cold this week - brrrr.

This week we have a sketch for you at Just Add Ink. I think you will find that it lends itself to being CAS or more elaborate if you like. I think this week I kind of ending up some where in the middle - lol! Here's the sketch.

And here is what I made of it.

The embossed vellum overlay is only attached at the top, and to make sure it wasn't going any where I sewed it in place with my sewing machine. The only other point to note is that I coloured the flowers using markers and also using ink from ink pad lids using an aquapainter. The combination of both lets you get a more intense colour.

Hope you can join us this and try out the sketch - we'd love to see your take on it!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 219 Just add inspiration

Hello there,
did I mention it was cold here. Seriously right now I'm going to bed with a hot water bottle and a heated rice pack - it's that cold!! But the cold weather outside means that staying inside where it's warm and cosy and pulling out my stamping supplies is a really good option - lol!

So here is the new Just Add Ink challenge for when you have time to be warm and cosy ;) This week we want you to Just Add Inspiration.

The inspiration pictures really said clean and simple masculine card to me so this is what I came up with.

I always struggle with masculine cards trying to find the balance. CAS is not really me, not adding those extra layers and extra twiddly bits is hard! But by exercising some will power I managed to keep the design to the banners, the embossed texture and the strong colours. With just a tiny bit shine brought in by embossing the two part sentiment (there had to be some!)

Hope you can join us this week. Do check out the rest of the DT with some fabulous ideas for how they were inspired.

Kim

JAI 218 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
its been fun so see all the new SU! goodness getting an outing in the US and Canada. There are already several items high on my wish list!! However, down here in AUS our SU! catalogue still has a few weeks left to run and that means that the 2012-2014 in colors are about to disappear so I thought it would be fun to make sure they had one more outing before retiring. But to make it a bit simpler the challenge this week at Just Add Ink is to Just Add any three of the retiring in colors.

I wanted to create something light and spring flavoured and as I had hardly used Primrose Petals that was my number one colour pick. I paired that with Summer Starfruit and Gumball Green to create a flowery creation for my MIL.

Given the number of stamps set I have, I have a remarkable lack of "Happy Mothers Day" sentiments. But MDS came to rescue! I fired the program up and put "mother" into the search and the first thing that came up was the "Happy Mothers Day" sentiment from All Holidays. So I recoloured the stamp to Primrose Petals, adjusted the size and printed it out onto some Whisper White and then die cut the mat out. I was really chuffed with how easy it was!!

The rest of the front was simply stamping and embossing a whole bunch of petite flowers and then arranging them around the sentiment. A few tiny punched flowers, a little greenery and a scattering of pearls finish it all off.

Do check out the rest of the DT for some colour fun! Hope you can join us...which three colours will you pick?

Kim

JAI 217 Just add cupcakes/cake/dessert

Hello there,
well we have a tasty challenge for you this week at Just Add Ink. This week we want you to Just Add Cupcake/Cake/Dessert to your papercrafting creations. Remember we love to see scrap pages as well as cards.

I thought the challenge was perfect for creating what is going to be a belated birthday card for a friend. I still haven't managed to move very far from all the blue tones I've been favouring lately although I have added a dash of pink in this week ;)

I pulled out my circle card thinlet to create a swing card.
Opening up..
 Flipped around.

I tried to keep the layers simpler here than on the ones I made for my kids birthdays earlier this year. But I made sure to add lots of little details to make it special enough. For example, I stamped the cupcake panel three times - once in black, once in Bermuda Bay and once in Strawberry Slush and then cut and punched and coloured and layered it all back together. I'm going to miss the ruffled ribbon - it adds so much gorgeous girly detail and a few little flowers can never go astray either ;) Really when you think about it, its hard to go wrong with a combination of polka dots and cupcakes!

Hope you can play along with us. Do check out the rest of the delicious offerings from the rest of the DT.

Kim
