Well hello there,
life has been non-stop for the last few weeks. Even with the school routine starting it didn't slow down, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will next week though! Luckily, I had the perfect project for this week's new Just Add Ink challenge ready to share. This was one of the samples I made for my Product Spotlight presentation at the SU! OnStage event back in April. I promise I will get around to blogging the others soon! This week the challenge, from Rochelle, is to Just Add Stitching (Real or Faux).
I finished my presentation with two stepped up projects that showed how to use the new Color Theory suite with other SU! sets. I love to pull out the sewing machine so stitching was featured on both cards. Here's the first using stitching as an accent.
The inside. Eeek the colour is completely off in my inside shot, but then again I took the photo at 7 am on a wintery Autumn morning!
Now I get to show you my other project. This time using stitching to add a vellum layer, and I couldn't resist adding some glimmer faux sequins too to create a shaker element.
Anyone wondering how I got the leaf vein effect (there is no vein stamp for the smaller leaf in Colorful Seasons)? First ink up your little leaf stamp, then kiss it to the large leaf vein detail stamp. That takes the ink off your little leaf in a perfect vein pattern!! I was very chuffed to discover this!!! One point to note is that it works better if you have less ink on your little leaf rather than more.

welcome to another Just Add Ink challenge and we have a good one for you this week - Just Add Material. I remembering seeing someone from the PaperTrey Inc team in 2009 stamping an image on calico (sorry I can't narrow it down more) and its been on my list of try some time, since then. So this week was the week! My mind is already turning to Christmas cards - so thats what came out. Here's the result.
I got my hands on some calico (off white/natural coloured) from my local haberdashery and I inked up my tree really well with Real Red and pressed it down onto the calico - and it works! quite well! I trimmed out the stamped calico with some pinking shears, added some extra calico underneath to create a little pillow and then used my sewing machine to stitch the stamped calico to some Old Olive cardstock also trimmed out with pinking shears. The finishing touch was to add a Star brad to the top of the tree (I used my Cropodile to punch a small hole through the calico and cardstock for the brad prongs). I could then adhere this panel onto a Real Red base that had been stamped with snowflakes on the upper two thirds plus. At the base of the image panel I added a some layered Old Olive ribbon detail and then embellished that with three Real Red buttons threaded with silver cord. Below that I stamped the Christmas sentiment in versamark and then white embossed. I often don't decorate the inside of my Christmas cards but I did with this one - just nice and simple to match the front.

Hi all, this week Makeesha Byl (welcome back Keesh :) posted a great sketch for her weekly challenge, so great in fact that I couldn't help myself and made two cards!! There is something about sketches with circles or ovals that really appeals to me. Having said that my favourite of my two cards this week - doesn't have either ;) Here's the sketch. 
My first card was inspired by one that Nicole Heady posted back in June for the USA father's day. I love the effect she got and couldn't resist having a go. Here's what I came up with. 
I started with a square Chocolate Chip base and layered that with some PTI paper. For the image panel I started with some Rustic Ivory cardstock, stamped fine text over it in Old Olive and then over that stamped my tree in Versamark. I then clear embossed the tree, then got a sponge and started sponging Old Olive over the embossed tree till I got the depth of colour I wanted. Almost at the same time the sponge would also remove the ink from the embossed image so the tree started to pop out. To remove any excess ink I just went over carefully with a clean tissue. The tree panel was then cut with a Spellbinder Large Label, and mounted on some Choc Chip cardstock. The finished tree panel was laid over three strip of twill that I SNAILed down to the DSP, then frayed the ends and then stitched zig zag over. I really love the earthy atmospheric feel of this one. It even got an approving hmm from my DH! OK now for a change of pace here is card two. I'm back to girl's birthday cards again for this one. Here it is. 
I started by rifling through my DSP collection for a pattern that was suitably girly and would be good for paper piecing. Having settled on this DSP, I got out my stamp, stamped her on Whisper White and also onto the DSP. Then I proceeded to trim out her bow, dress and shoes from the DSP. I used the two way glue pen to stick the DSP onto the stamped image base. Then I got my aquapainter and coloured the rest of her in. Once all that was done I could add the crystal effects to her bow, collar and shoes. I also stamped the cake onto Pink Pirouette and DSP, cut out alternating DSP layers, adhered those, then added crystal effects icing and candle flame - blinged up with a sprinkle of dazzling diamonds. The central image was cut out with an oval die, sponged around the edges with Pink Pirouette, and then layered onto a scalloped oval mat of Riding Hood Red. Rather than three horizontal bands, as per the sketch I have ended up going with two and a half. The top and bottom are strips of DSP laid over scalloped Riding Hood Red. The half ;) is a bow of RHR taffeta from which two little sentiment tags hang. As a final detail I also pierced all the scallops. The large Pink Pirouette mat below was wheeled with the Happy Birthday wheel in Pink Pirouette so it adds just a subtle pattern and message at the same time. I even managed to get it all mostly straight! That was laid over a white mat and then finally the RHR base. I can't deny this wasn't fiddly but every now and again I like to play around with something that is fiddly and I think the fiddling paid off. well its not my week on yet at Just Add Ink but I couldn't resist playing along with the sketch challenge this week. Its such an interesting one - very simple so it leaves a lot of room for interpretation. Here's it is.
The idea for the card just popped into my head and seemed to be perfect for something I could give my hubby to tuck into his suitcase (he's heading off on a work trip soon). Being a boy card I kept it simple - perfect for the sketch.
Kraft is actually a "colour" I find really hard to work with, may'be since it often seems an unappealing cardboard shade but I do like it paired with red and white. So I started with a Kraft base then added a red layer then white. To finish that layer I got out the sewing machine and just went around the edges to make a frame. The stitching turned out more textured than I expected/wanted as the stitch tension was a bit loose. I'm kind of working these things out as I go.
I decided to go with Copics to colour my little ute (pickup) cause I wanted a bright red to contrast with the white. So I stamped the ute using Memento Tuxedo Black, then using R27 and R29 coloured the car. I used T1, N2 and a dark grey (sorry can't remember that one) to colour the car in. I used the same reds for the big pile of hearts. I trimmed both hearts and car out and mounted them on dimensionals above a Kraft circle element on the bottom LHS. The inside was finished off very simply with sentiment and with a bit more of the ute, coloured again with Copics.
I'm pretty happy with how it turned out - despite some issues with my colouring, stitching and a smudgy fingerprint that Mr 2 added to the front white panel when he snagged the card while I was photographing another one. I think my hubby will get the idea that we love him and miss him which is the important thing!

well this week I'm back with a card to welcome a baby girl to the world. The starting point was to use Makeesha Byl's weekly challenge - this weeks it's a sketch, with a circle element - love those! And since I love to use DSP (patterned paper) I couldn't pass up the Just Add Ink challenge this week too. First up here's the sketch.

The challenge is hosted by one Keesh's DT this week, Cindy Major and Cindy added the extra element that you must use something you've been hoarding. Not hard in my case ;) I knew I wanted to put my button bellied teddy bear in the middle of the circle. Next I hunted for some DSP that would fit the pastelly brown/ pink theme I wanted to use. Having selected the DSP I then stamped my bear on and trimmed it out, then mounted him up on dimensionals above a contrasting DSP pattern. Then added a pink chocolate threaded button to his belly with Tombow. In retrospect I think the button is actually a bit too big. The bear is framed by a Close to Cocoa layer then a large Pink Pirouette scalloped circle. Down the bottom I added my most hoarded element a Build a Brad, had them for over a year and never cracked the tin. I used the Brad (backed by another hoarded element a Felt Fusion flower) to anchor the sentiment banner. To balance that all out I added a couple Felt Fusion Too flowers (letting all the stops out on hoarding now!) layered with a threaded button to the upper left of the scalloped circle. I couldn't go past using a new EK success punch I picked up this week to give a lovely border to the vertical sketch strip and it nicely echos the scalloped cirlce - I hope! I added two ribbons over the top of the Close to Cocoa strip. I tried something new for me, dyeing ribbon. I used a sponge dauber and my Pink Pirouette ink pad to dye some white taffeta - since I wanted to keep the pink/cocoa theme. Finally to finish off the front I stitched around the edge of the top layer using some pale pink thread. The inside is finished off simply to match the front. Overall I'm mostly happy with the end result - one other reservation, beside how big the bears belly button is (try saying that when you've had a couple of glasses of wine!!) is that the front is over cluttered. But you can't get it right 100% of the time and I do like it!
