JAI 183 Just add a sketch

Hello there,

well the week is almost over - sigh of relief here - its been another busy one. And the weekend offers the chance to sneak in a little stamping :) so it seems a good time to tell you about this weeks Just Add Ink challenge. This week we want you to Just Add a Sketch. Here it is.

I'm still on the fence with the whole hexagon thing so I went a bit, well you could call it interpretive with the sketch. But if you look closely you see all the elements in the right place. For example the two flower heads, the butterfly and the splotches represent the four hexagons in the sketch.

Soft, girly and bit vintage with touches of shimmer (the splotches and lace are all stamped in Encore Gold) is how this turned out which was just what I was hoping. Always nice when that happens! Do check out the rest of the JAI DT for some inspirational ideas on how to use this great sketch.

JAI 174 Just add a colour combo

well I must admit I almost forgot to write up my post this week as my usual program of weekly events is all out of sync because of school holidays. But I'm really glad I did remember as this week at Just Add Ink we have a lovely, very new, colour challenge for you. Yes this week its time to Just add a colour combo. Here's the colours.

Now if you don't have these exact colours, you can substitute with close alternatives - say for example Crumb Cake and Pool Party in SU! terms.

A close up of my first Simply Pressed clay button, painted with a light sheen of crystal effects. I was delighted with how it turned out - and it was a lot of fun to make it too!

As you might guess I had fun playing with an embossing folder again. This time I used my brayer to apply Baked Brown Sugar to the raised side of the SU! Honeycomb embossing folder and then I pressed my card stock gently onto the folder. By shear chance I got a clear space on the bottom left at the front - so that predestined where my sentiment would go. I framed it with stamped and embossed flowers and some extra swirly bits - and a banner - I'm finding it hard not to add one to cards right now - lol!

I really enjoyed playing with this colour combo as its a really lovely one!  Hope you can join us and play with the colours too. Thanks for visiting,

JAI 123 Just add a sketch

well hopefully the week for you all has been less germ filled than mine. I'm hoping that by the time this post goes lives I won't be stuffed up and snuffly anymore and even more so hope that my Mr 4 has stopped coughing!! This week at Just Add Ink we have a sketch for you, it might take some thinking but it has alot of possibilities!

I started by flipping the sketch 90 degrees, viewed that way it made me think of a frame, with tags in the bottom right corner. Now why a frame? well that might have something to do with the recent acquistion of the SU! Notably Ornate set. I ummed and ahhed about this for months but in the end the appeal of the frame won out. Anyway here is the end result.

I started by stamping about 2/3 of the frame on the base, two flowers overlapping the frame and some scattered extra background detail. That done I impressed the base layer to add texture. Then I stamped the frame again, trimmed it out, sponged the edges and mounted that over the base. I also trimmed out several layers of flowers and white embossed an additional flower and layers.  Added all the flowers and layers in using dimensionals, and finished off the front with a couple of little tags. The inside was finished off to match. I must admit I really liked how this one turned out :) but I didn't have long to admire it as it went in the post straight away to a lovely stamping friend over in New Zealand (Hi Paula :).

2012 Convention Swaps

Hello there,

well I've been very happily occupied with attending the Australian/ New Zealand SU! Convention for the last day or two (big smile). In the lead up I was flat out trying to get swaps and a special little pressie for my fellow  JAI  design teammates ready. As a consequence I just didn't have the time do something for this weeks Just Add Ink challenge :( Luckily it was my "off" week. But do go to JAI and see what others on the DT have come up with for another great challenge. Since by now my convention swaps have been swapped I thought it would be a good occaision to actually post them! I made three different swaps. Here they are.

JAI 115 Just add a sketch

there has been a bit more toe dipping this week as well as some nice walks on the beach, well there was before the weather closed in! However while I've enjoyed the change it will be nice to get home. 

Now on to this weeks Just Add Ink challenge, this week we have a sketch for you. Here it is.

I knew life was going to be hectic once we got back so I prepared this one (or should I say two) ahead so I was already for Mothers Day in early May. I rotated the sketch 90 degrees and then mirror imaged it. Here's the outcome.

I started with the idea of making the flowers. I seen a few recently on the blog a lovely friend Di Barnes here. She mentioned using three layers each of fancy flower, triple doily and boho blossom punches. I used three different colours for each flower. Secured them together with a vintage brad and then liberally sprayed with platinum shimmer mist, scrunching the layers up to give the flowers shape. Then set them aside to dry. The top layer of the cards are portioned as one third DSP and one third white impressed cardstock. With the separation being covered by pleated lace (secured with sticky strip) and ribbon. The white section was also stamped with some flowering swirls, embellished with some little blossoms, that lead the eye to the sentiment. The flower was partially laid over the DSP and stamped swirls and I finished it all off with a few little leafy sprigs. To be honest I found this sketch to be another challenging one!

JAI 102 - Just Add Kathy Tanner

well this week at Just Add Ink we have a chance for you to be really inspired! The challenge this week is to case one of the team - Kathy Tanner. She is one talented lady so I have no doubt you will enjoy finding something wonderful to CASE! I loved the card I choose to case at first site. Here's Kathy's card.

And here is my spin on it

I was still working in pink mode when I made this one - so its all Melon Mambo and Pretty in Pink on a Confetti White base. I got to try a couple of new things here - which is always fun - I inked up my embossing folder with Pretty in Pink and then embossed and I used the tulip frame embossing folder for the first time!! It took a little bit of jiggling and fiddling to get the "squares" (they turned out as rectangles in the end) the right size. Then more jiggling and fiddling to get the "squares" arranged in an order I thought looked good. I sponged around all the edges and also added some PIP accents to various swirly and butterfly bits. The front was finished off with some scalloped Mambo ribbon and a sentiment medallion. Got to say I love this elegant design and it was a real delight to CASE Kathy. So I hope you get the chance to as well!

JAI 89- just add inspiration

Well hello there,

I've been enjoying a few days holiday in Sydney squeezing in some shopping for me :) and beach visits to the kids delight. But even better was the chance to meet up a with a really lovely stamping friend Di Barnes. Hi Di :) As it happens the card I made for todays challenge is the one I gave to Di for her birthday. So what is the Just Add Ink challenge this week? Well cast your eyes down at the photo below as the this weeks challenge is an inspiration photo.

What a gorgeous scene! There are so many things to inspire in this photo! I decided I wanted to reflect the colours and how the tree seems to spread both up and down. So here is the end result.

As you can see I had a lot of fun using some still new crafting goodies. Usually I shie away from lots of white but it just seemed to work for this project. So I started by impressing a pattern on my front white panel. Then I stamped the large leafy flourish twice after working out where I wanted my central frame to go. Then embossed my black frame, trimmed it out, and then stamped my butterfly and sentiment. The butterflies were all inked up using markers and I used a blender pen to just blur the colours together a little. Another butterfly was mounted on top, embellished with a rhinestone and a few more rhinestones scattered about. That top white panel was mounted on dimensionals above the base card.

I was quite pleased how this one turned out - definitely more CAS than usual for me.

JAI 80 - just add a sketch

welcome back, again ;) this week for a new Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have a sketch for you, it puzzled me a bit at first, but I solved that by flipping it. If you're stumped I suggest going and checking out the rest of the DT samples - they are fabulous!! Here's the sketch.

 And here is what I made of it.

I made this card with a special friend in mind and that dictated my colour selection somewhat but I must say the combo of Not Quite Navy, Very Vanilla and Rose Red appeals to me too!! Convention goers might recognise the main inspiration for this card - the coloured in flourish (from a new stamp set coming soon). A sample card was up on the boards with the flourish delicately coloured in and I loved it!!  Basically I paired up the flourish with a large decoratively stamped die cut label mounted up on dimensionals. I coloured the flourish using ink pad lid and blender pen. The final elements were some linen threaded buttons for the sentiment label, and a sprinkling of little Rose Red flowers, edges daubed with shimmer paint then finished off with pearls. Oh and I added tiny dots of shimmer paint to the little circles in the flourish using a toothpick - hard to see this in the photos though :(
