JAI 249 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well after a very interesting (training at work), chaotic (travelling and the daily work/home juggle) and sad (funeral) week I'm really glad to find that it's Friday! And that's not least because it means it's time for a new Just Add Ink challenge :) This week we have a great sketch from Tina. Here it is - it has lots of potential!

And here is what I came up with.

My cluster of flowers accented by the pierced frame represents the hexagon elements in the sketch - I probably went overboard on the "stamped" hexagon pattern (done by inking up the Honeycomb embossing folder with ink) but decided to leave it as it was.

The design team has lots of wonderful projects to inspire you so don't forget to check them out and hopefully it will inspire you to join us!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 203 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well after melting in the extreme heat we've had consistently this summer thankfully the temperature has come down and we've even had some rain. You know wet stuff that falls from the the sky - its been so long! Anyway all that heat might have influenced my decision to go with cool colours for my card for this week's Just Add Ink challenge.  This week -  its a sketch from Paula.

I found for me it worked better if I rotated it 90 degrees.

I used DSP on the right hand side and then echoed that with a stamped panel on the left. You might have noticed I do like using the Honeycomb embossing folder to stamp with - since it does come up rather often ;) I stamped, coloured and paper pieced my little girl, changing out her colours for the inside. On the front she was cut out and then mounted on dimensionals. I vintaged it all up with a sponging of Crumb Cake ink around the edges and some faux stitching. I always enjoy a little bit of colouring - so relaxing, especially if you can find a cool place - like right under the air con - lol - to just sit and play :)

Thanks for visiting and do check out the rest of the DT for lots of great takes on this sketch.

JAI 199 - Just add a sketch

Hello there,
did you all enjoy the Just Add Ink blog hop last week? There are so many new techniques and projects I want to try that the girls showcased last week - when I get the time that is! This week our new challenge is to Just Add a sketch. I'm sure you'll have fun with it.
And here is what I made of it.

The idea for this began with the idea of a crepe filter paper flower. All the layers evolved from there as I wanted something blingy to top it off and something beneath to frame it. I had fun playing with all the inky layers to create the background too.  And since I had the sewing machine out I added a some stitching detail as well :)

Thanks for visiting hope you can join us and do check the rest of the DT for some wonderful inspiration for the sketch.

JAI 174 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
well I must admit I almost forgot to write up my post this week as my usual program of weekly events is all out of sync because of school holidays. But I'm really glad I did remember as this week at Just Add Ink we have a lovely, very new, colour challenge for you. Yes this week its time to Just add a colour combo. Here's the colours.
Now if you don't have these exact colours, you can substitute with close alternatives - say for example Crumb Cake and Pool Party in SU! terms.

A close up of my first Simply Pressed clay button, painted with a light sheen of crystal effects. I was delighted with how it turned out - and it was a lot of fun to make it too!
As you might guess I had fun playing with an embossing folder again. This time I used my brayer to apply Baked Brown Sugar to the raised side of the SU! Honeycomb embossing folder and then I pressed my card stock gently onto the folder. By shear chance I got a clear space on the bottom left at the front - so that predestined where my sentiment would go. I framed it with stamped and embossed flowers and some extra swirly bits - and a banner - I'm finding it hard not to add one to cards right now - lol!

I really enjoyed playing with this colour combo as its a really lovely one!  Hope you can join us and play with the colours too. Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 168 Just Add a Sketch

Hello there,
well Mae has another great sketch for us this week at Just Add Ink
I took one small liberty and flipped the sketch so that star element was on the left hand side instead. I put it to good use to make my Mum's and MIL mother's day cards. First up my Mum's.  It was in the course of making this that I realised I actually really rather like Calypso Coral!

And this is the version for my MIL, same DSP as above just the flip side.

I love how they both turned out and so did my Mum and MIL :)

Do go and check out the rest of the DT for some fabulous ideas for ways to use this sketch. Hope you can join us! Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 167 Just add fabric

Well hello there :)
I'm still catching up on sleep as I write this from a fabulous few days spent at the SU! South Pacific convention. I had such a lovely time catching up with the rest of the JAI girls there, and some other special friends (waving hi to Di, Sam and Kelly!!!). The convention itself was stuffed full of fabulous creative inspiration - I have so many ideas - I just have to find time to play with them now! But it was a real delight to come home to hugemongeous cuddles from my two munchkins :)

Anyway on to this weeks Just Add Ink challenge - and it's a fun one. We want you to Just Add Fabric. A few weeks ago I had a wedding card to make for a special crafting friend and so I pulled out some fabric, heart framelits and went to work.

I got to put an idea I saw presented, by Marelle Taylor at the Sydney SU! regionals last year, into play for this card. Marelle presented a christmas card where she filled the ornament punch shape with fabric then stuffed it with cotton wool. So I took that concept and plumped up my central fabric heart by adding cotton wool stuffing behind it. Next I added a sparkly wedding text heart then the top layer - embossed and distressed honeycomb. The finishing touch was a sentiment banner. It's simple but I hope a little special!

Thanks for visiting, do check out the rest of the DT for fun and fabulous Just Add Fabric ideas!

JAI 156 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
thankfully this weekend was a bit more relaxed than the last few - mostly. I did try my first zumba class - and survived - lol!  With no events planned I seized the chance to use some new stamping goodies, which is what I also did for this weeks Just Add Ink challenge. And this week we have a colour challenge for you.
How to mix these colours did take a bit of pondering. But I knew I needed a thank you card for a friend so that was the goal.

I was itching to play with my honeycomb folder so that came out, I rubbed some white ink over the embossing to bring the pattern out and then dripped and sprayed a shiny spray mist over it. The thanks went centre stage in a recessed oval accented with a flourish and some flowers. Some ribbon and buttons finish it all off. So sweet, CAS - my way that is and with lots of texture - love that!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
