between work and lots of visitors its been flat out around here so it was soooo exciting when I finally got the time this past week to get out the new In Colors and play!! Got to say I am loving these new colours. The work so well together! What was I working on? Well the new challenge at Just Add Ink this week of course;) This week we want you to Just Add a Sketch from Narelle.

And here is what I came up with.
I really like the new Lovely Inside and Out set so it was a pleasure to use it. I knew I wanted to use it as a negative diecut from the main panel. So first I prepped my panel by brayering a colour wash over it and adding tone on tone flowers, then I die cut my window out. Accenting that with a flower was just what I need to match with the sketch perfectly! To finish it off I used lot of gold - thread, sequins, embossing!

this week has been a study of contrasts it started down at the beach as we finished off the school break with a little holiday down the coast and as soon as we got back plunged full on into the daily school and work routine. Before we headed to the coast; however, I did put together a project for this week's new Just Add Ink challenge. This week we want you to Just Add a Colour Combo from Jan. Here are the colours.
I found this colour mix to be quite intense so I decided to balance them out with a fair bit of white. It struck me they might be perfect for a sympathy card and having been caught out a couple of times when I should have sent one but haven't, I decided it was a good chance to make one to tuck away in my stash.
Having stamped and arranged a bunch of flowers I didn't want to cover them up too much but muting them a little with vellum was the perfect solution. So I white embossed my sentiment on the vellum strip. Given that I was intending this to be a sympathy card I have also kept bling to a minimum - there's shine from the embossing on the base mat and a scatter white sequins.

well I find myself laid up with a horrible head cold this week probably a legacy of last week being pretty stressful (our beloved 18 year old fur baby was having some health issues) and busy (training at work and then running classes on Saturday. Both of those were fun and interesting, but they take a lot of energy investment). Luckily, I was able to craft ahead for this week's new Just Add Ink challenge. This week we want you to Just Add a Sketch from Chantell. Here it is.
And this is what I came up with.
As soon as I realised I wanted the bottom portion of the sketch to be a field of flowers I got to work stamping and masking (post it notes were my go to for this). This is going to pink loving friend so I decided to keep the foliage black and white rather than introducing any greens. To get the slight blur in the Melon Mambo detailed layer I just quickly swished over my base Pink Pirouette layer with a damp aqua painter before stamping. To glitz it all up I added gold stitching, gold wink of stella splatter and sequins.

well thank goodness we had some relief from the unrelenting heat this week. My poor garden has suffered though I am hoping that if we get some rain we might get some flowers as we slowly transfer into autumn.
This week at Just Add Ink we want you to Just Add a Colour Combo (from me). As it happens these colours are just perfect for a bouquet of flowers (and plenty of other things too - just check out the rest of the Just Add Ink design team for some great ideas!) Here are the colours.
And here is what I came up with.
The inside.
Well you see before you my first go at no line watercoloring. I must admit while it was underway I wasn't sure it was going to look even half way decent. But somewhat miraculously it turned out ok! Adding the black really helped the colours to pop and a big banner can hide a multitude of sins (or dodgy colouring). I finished it off with clear wink of stella to the petals and gold wink of stella splatter and also accented the flower centres with a gold signo gel pen. Regardless of how it turned out it was a fun process and I was amazed at how different the flowers looked from their stamped version (is that a good thing?)
