JAI62 - Just add a box or a bag

Hi there, well welcome back for another Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have something fun for you - we want you to Just add a box or a bag! Making 3D items was something I was originally quite daunted by but I have discovered its actually not that hard - and so much fun!! Now I just happened to have a yummy Lindt bunny sitting in my cupboard at home (how did that happen????) so I decided to make a box for it. Clear of course. I started by looking at my bunny and working out how big the box needed to be (12 cm sq height/length and 6.5 cm depth). Then I decided to play it safe and work out my template on paper first, just as well as it took me a couple of goes to get all the details worked out, and how to fit the box pieces onto the acetate sheets. Having done that - it was actually quite a quick process to cut out the two acetate pieces, score them and stick it all together using a mix of Sticky strip and glue dots. To decorate the box I used a grass border punch to create some grass for the bunny of course, and this also served to hide the glue dots holding the flap closed. Next I cut a 12 by 12 cm sq of Whisper White and using a punched scalloped circle set about creating a blue cloudy sky to go behind the bunny. This also served to hide the sticky strip holding the sides together! Lastly I wrapped some Old Olive ribbon around the top, added a bow and a tag built out of various punched and die cut layers. The tag had to have a bunny on it of course! Now I know what is going to happen to the bunny (yummy yummy in my tummy) but who would I give the box too?? While I love my gorgeous little munchkins, when it comes to chocolate they have absolutely no interest in the packaging. So I bought another bunny (no not for me ;) and delivered box, bunny and little eggs to my Mum and Dad just to say - I love you! Three times a flower

Hi there,

the Creatalicious challenge this month was to use only scrap DSP (of which I have an abundance) and to make a flower. Deciding on the DSP, for me at least, was certainly going to heavily influence my cardstock colour choices. But I ended up going with Bella Rose scraps and here is the result.

Finally a sideview, its quite bulky not something you could post easily but good if you can hand deliver!


Which I've got to say I was pretty happy with. So the Bella Rose DSP was one of my starting points, the other dictated the card shape, which ended up being square. Why square? Well I wanted to make a large sort of flower medallion to go in the middle of a decorative square scalloped frame. So starting from the outside in I first used my scallop edge punch to make a decorative punched internal border. This idea I first saw back in May, on Aussie blogs, after it was demonstrated at the 2009 convention. In the middle I wanted to construct my flower, and I decided to have a go at making a fan fold flower. I saw the tutorial on Beate Johns blog, once again watching the video really helps you get the idea of how to make the flower. By measuring the amount of space I had inside my Kiwi Kiss scalloped square I knew I wanted to make my fan fold flower no bigger than 3 inches. This meant starting with a strip of DSP about 1.5 inches wide and 12 inches long, after I had scalloped the edge. (Remember the final flower is twice the width of the starting DSP). Luckily enough I had the perfect scrap to use covered with a tiny rose pattern. I made the flower as per the tutorial and then decided I liked Beate’s example so much I would make another smaller one to overlay the first. I used the reverse of the DSP for this one, a Kiwi pattern that tied back in to the Kiwi scalloped square. To finish off the centre I added a small Pink Pirouette felt flower and a large green (Ice) rhinestone brad. I layered the scalloped Kiwi square/ fan flower onto of some Riding Hood Red to provide some contrast to the large Rose DSP I used over the RHR base of the card. It took some scratching of the head to finally come up with the idea of offsetting the whole flower panel on the card base and then adding a scalloped oval sentiment panel on the bottom RHS to balance it out. Finishing details include piercing of the scallop pattern on the square, adding brads to three corners a little red pearl to the sentiment, some Kiwi satin ribbon across the scalloped square, tied with a hitch (?) knot and finally faux stitching around the outside edge of the card. I used white gel pen to connect the pierced holes, so the effect is pretty subtle but nice.

Pink, plum and burgundy

The guideline for the second Creatalicious challenge was to use pink or plum with burgundy and green oh and some ribbon or lace. I did include the green but I also changed it to pink and plum and here is the result.

And here's a side view to show you the layering and a glimpse of the inside.

To balance out using several colours I started by using a white base. I stamped out several flowers in a mix of Pink Pirouette, Pale and Perfect Plum and Bravo Burgundy, mostly onto Whisper White but I did stamp two Perfect Plum ink onto Pale Plum cardstock flowers. Then I punched or trimmed them out and layered them up in a sort of descending cascade from right to left. I decided on using Kiwi Kiss as the green as it seemed to lift and brighten the whole colour combo – so I stamped three leaves and fitted those into the flower cascade. The ribbon component is a bow of Kiwi Kiss satin added onto the largest layered flower. To finish off the flowers I added some retired buttons (Pretty in Pink and Burgundy) and some pale pink brads. To balance out the flower cascade I’ve added the sentiment in the top LHS corner, framing it with a little paper piercing.

I finished off the inside with a little simple stamping and masking of flowers.

Hope you like it – I must admit I thought it was an unusual colour combo but I am quite happy with how it turned out. It’s certainly making me think about using my Plums and Burgundy inks a bit more frequently.

Modern Birthday Boy

Its time again for me to post my go at Makeesha’s weekly challenge. This week it was an inspirational challenge, and something a bit different, a sleek modern kitchen. Here’s the pic.

I wanted to make a very clean, simple, sleek card that reflected the colours you can see in the pic. The colours, and the “style” I thought would a suit a birthday card I wanted to make for my little brother, who hits one of those significant birthdays this year. So the colour palette is pretty simple – Chocolate Chip, Whisper White and Silver. Using Chocolate Chip and using some metal hardware also qualifies the card for another challenge – the first Creatalicious Challenge. Here’s the card.

Using a Verve sketch from April, which had the clean lines that I wanted, I started with a Choc Chip base, layered that with Whisper White. I ran some silver cardstock through the cuttlebug using a brand new folder – Diamond Plate. Perfect for my bro, as he is a builder by trade. I thought it also suited the kitchen pic too, in a trendy designer way. In the practical sense perhaps not – too many lumps and bumps. Then I layered those onto Choc Chip. Finally over the top a panel of Choc Chip, which has a big Chocolate cake (clear embossed to give some shine) and the sentiment adhered to it. Originally I had stamped a Choc Chip cake onto Whisper White then planned to mount the paper toiled cake over the top, but I decided that it looked better mounted straight onto the base Choc Chip layer instead. The finishing touch some brads with Phillips Head screw tops.

I was quite happy with how this turned out and reckon my little brother will like it too.

Birthday Princess

well I'm getting this one in by the skin of my teeth. There was me yesterday morning thinking I'll just check but I'm pretty sure there is another week to go. Argh!! nope today was the deadline. Luckily enough I already had an idea in my head so in the scheme of things it may not have taken so long as usual to get this card together. Anyway firstly here is the sketch for the DT application for the new Creatalicious Challanges.

And here's my card.

For some reason I had Regal Rose and Basic Grey in my head and I also knew I had some already stamped images from Pretty Princess, which I borrowed a few months back from a good friend - hi Sam. Cutting a 4'6" by 4'6" in (12 by 12 cm) card base in Regal Rose I then layered that with Basic Grey then once more with some Regal Rose DSP (from the hostess pack in the curtrent SU catalogue here in AUS). I used more Regal Rose DSP for the panel just behind the main image. The central image of the Princess, which was stamped onto watercolour paper, was layered onto Regal Rose and then Basic Grey. The image itself I coloured in using only Regal Rose and a mixture of marker and ink from the stamp pad lid using an aquapainter (Except for using Blush Blossom for the skin areas). Once that was dry I glammed up the image a bit with some crystal effects and finally dazzling diamonds. The flower embellishments were made from combining punched flowers (Spring Bouquet punch) and felt flowers from the Flower Fusion Too pack. A mixture of silver brads and clear rhinestone brads were used to finish off the flowers and for the triple element on the side. Final touches include paper piercing around the two DSP layers and of course adding the sentiment. Which I incorporated into the bottom flower embellishments.

You may have noticed I haven't finished off the inside - I will, I just didn't have the time last night or today to get there. Overall I think it will make a nice birthday card for a teenager or may'be just someone young at heart:)
