JAI 210 Just add an Easter bag, box or basket

Hello there,
well just in case you have, with great will power, resisted buying the increasing multitudes of shiny brightly coloured Easter eggs that are spilling off supermarket shelves we are giving you a legitimate excuse to buy some before Easter in the name of your art. Your excuse - well this weeks Just Add Ink challenge is to make an Easter bag, box or basket.  If some eggs essential for the photo shoot don't make it into the bag, box or basket - well that's between you and the Easter bunny - lol.

I decided it was time to make some new Easter boxes for my munchkins, they used the Bunny boxes I made for them back in 2012 again last year. So here is the 2014 version.

 Close ups

 Basic Instructions
 Step 1: Cut a 12 x 12 sheet of Crumb Cake in half at 6" (15.3 cm). Then score at 5" (12.7 cm) and 7" (17.8 cm)
Step 2: Cut two 2 1/2" (6.4 cm) by 4 7/8" (12.4 cm) pieces of Crumb Cake for the sides of the box. Score 1/4" (0.6 cm) in from edge on both long sides and one short side. Mark a mid point 1" (2.5 cm) in from the bottom and diagonally score to the bottom corners from the midline. Score a central fold from the top of the side to meet the diagonal fold (as pictured above).
Step 3: Decoratively die cut the box top front and back and add embossed pattern
Step 4: Diecut a window in the front side
Step 5: Cut window sheet and using sticky strip secure on back side of the window.
Tip: I rounded the window sheet corners so the sharp corners wouldn't hurt little fingers fishing around for eggs inside the box.
A view of the box showing how the sides fit in and all the scores work.

I quite enjoy the process of working out how to make a new box. The fact that you can make 3D items effectively from paper never ceases to amaze and delight me! I also enjoyed creating the little scenes on the front for the kids. My DD new straight away the one with the bunny was her's (Ok the flowers might have clued her in) and my DS seems to be quite happy with his duck. One point worth noting is that I made the Easter eggs peeping out of the grass using a small oval punch to punch the patterns from the little banners in the SAB Banner Blast stamp set.

I did think of adding some ribbon handles but so far have left them off for aesthetic reasons but may in the end need to add them for practical ones like the kids dropping eggs everywhere!!

Hope you can join us to eat some chocolate make a Easter bag, box or basket. Do check out the rest of the JAI DT for some inspiration 3D ideas.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 130 Just add Blue and Bling

Hello there :)

oooh lucky me has the day off work today to go and potter around at the Craft Fair which is in town this weekend :) Not only do I get to spend the day with a friend but spend it doing, talking, chatting, and buying ;) crafty stuff - yah!!  Hopefully you'll get the chance to have some crafty time this weekend too and you might want to try the fun challenge we have for you at Just Add Ink this week. This week we want you to add blue and bling! Here's what I came up.

Yes - back to Christmas again this week ;) But then I've just finished off my first Christmas stamp a stack for the year so Christmas is in the air here! The blue is fairly obvious ;) and for the bling - well I silver embossed dollies (snowflakes) all over the box. I also went super blingy for the tag. I got my hands on silver glimmer paper at Convention and I just couldn't resist using it here. More silver embossing and finally the bling was wrapped up with a rhinestone. The little box (2, 4, 6, 8 box) is quick and simple to make. You can find the tutorial that I used here.  The only change I made was to make a sturdy (but decorative) handle from cardstock. To finish it, all I had to do then was fill a cellophane bag with some yummy choccies and tie it up with some matching ribbon.

Hope you can join us this week! Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI62 - Just add a box or a bag

Hi there, well welcome back for another Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have something fun for you - we want you to Just add a box or a bag! Making 3D items was something I was originally quite daunted by but I have discovered its actually not that hard - and so much fun!! Now I just happened to have a yummy Lindt bunny sitting in my cupboard at home (how did that happen????) so I decided to make a box for it. Clear of course. I started by looking at my bunny and working out how big the box needed to be (12 cm sq height/length and 6.5 cm depth). Then I decided to play it safe and work out my template on paper first, just as well as it took me a couple of goes to get all the details worked out, and how to fit the box pieces onto the acetate sheets. Having done that - it was actually quite a quick process to cut out the two acetate pieces, score them and stick it all together using a mix of Sticky strip and glue dots. To decorate the box I used a grass border punch to create some grass for the bunny of course, and this also served to hide the glue dots holding the flap closed. Next I cut a 12 by 12 cm sq of Whisper White and using a punched scalloped circle set about creating a blue cloudy sky to go behind the bunny. This also served to hide the sticky strip holding the sides together! Lastly I wrapped some Old Olive ribbon around the top, added a bow and a tag built out of various punched and die cut layers. The tag had to have a bunny on it of course! Now I know what is going to happen to the bunny (yummy yummy in my tummy) but who would I give the box too?? While I love my gorgeous little munchkins, when it comes to chocolate they have absolutely no interest in the packaging. So I bought another bunny (no not for me ;) and delivered box, bunny and little eggs to my Mum and Dad just to say - I love you! Thanks for visiting, you can tell from my extended babble this week that I'm geting over that nasty flu - yahoo :) Hope you get the chance to add a box or bag this week and join in the fun!
