Inkspirations 55 - eat cupcake!

Hi there,

well we made it through Miss Sixes birthday, although she informs me her real birthday will be when she has a party!! Hmm I obviously still have some work to do and of course Mr almost 3 is old enough now to make it quite clear he wants a fuss and party and all things nice when its HIS birthday too! Ok enough chatter - onto today's card - for this weeks Inkspiration sketch challenge. Here's the sketch.

The DT did a fabulous job of showcasing wonderful ways to deal with this multi square design, in the end I went with repeating the same image. Here's what happened.


A square card (again but you see I've got a stash of envelopes just perfect for this size) 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 Melon Mambo base, layered with Early Expresso. Then I stamped my cupcake inchie 9 times on Whisper White and then punched them all out with the 1 1/4 inch sq punch. Mounted each square on dimensionals then added them to the Expresso layer. To act as the focal point I stamped my Party Hearty cupcake in Early Expresso on Whisper White. Then I cut a Melon Mambo top to match (using the stamp as a guide). I stamped a little vine image in Versamark on the Mambo top and white embossed it, then added a rhinestone to finish it. The cupcake top was mounted on dimensionals as was the cupcake. I used a decorative circle to frame the cupcake and some Melon Mambo ribbon to finish off the front. The inside was just simply finished off with a little inchie cupcake coloured in with markers.

I was thinking girls birthday card but since Miss Six tells me she doesn't like it because it has too much pink - say what!!!! - oh and there is no yellow (yellow is right at the top of her favourite colours right now) so given these glaring issues I've decided this is a big girls birthday card.

Just Add Ink Swap Blog Hop

Hi everyone,
well welcome to a special event that the JAI team are running - a blog hop. There are 14 stops on the hop (Just Add Ink and the 13 design team members) you can start anywhere as the hop goes in a loop. So why are we hopping? Well back in August one of the JAI team came up with the fun idea of doing a swap among the design team. The idea being to use as much material (colours and stamps) from the new catalogue that was to be released on Sept 1. Which, once the swaps were exchanged would give us all some wonderful examples of what you can do with the new goodies. So we each made mulitple copies of our card and sent them off to the rest of the team. Now when I started thinking about what I wanted to do - an idea popped into my head - and I just had to run with it. Well let me show you the end result.

So what popped into my head?? Well the idea for the background. Any guesses how I did that?? Ah well I won't keep you in suspense :) I used one of the inchie stamps from the Level 2 hostess set Cute by the Inch. The important thing is to worked out the centre of the Crumb Cake mat, mark that and stamp out from there. With each subsequent stamp linking together to make the pattern. It was time consuming but once I had tried it and liked the effect I had to do it!! The Crumb Cake mat was layered onto a Marina Mist mat and then onto the Whisper White base. Over the Crumb Cake mat I added a wide strip of cardstock vellum to which I added a central glittered strip. The vellum was fixed the Crumb Cake layer with four silver brads. In the centre of the card I cut a Marina Mist decorative tag, layered that with a wide oval stamped with one of the gorgeous ornate wreaths from Style Beautiful (in Early Expresso) then up on dimensionals added the friend sentiment in Marina Mist. The inside was finished off simply to match.

It turned out quite elegant I think - kind of a clean modern take on vintage! Definitely something fun to experiment with.

JAI 40 - just add a colour combo

well I'm back after a little break - life has just been plain busy! This week we have a lovely colour challenge for you at Just Add Ink. Here is the colour combo.


Now when I first turned my mind to these colours they said baby to me. Probably the pastel shades - of course I could have been influenced by my recent aquistion of the Baby Tees jumbo wheel. Before I actually got to the stamping I actually demounted my wheel and cut the little Tees into individual stamps (mounting them on Ezi Mount)- I pinched this idea from Renee van Stralen.



OK having adjusted my hardware it was time to stamp. As I wanted to colour the Tees I used Black Stazon. So I stamped three different Tees onto Whisper White. I decided to use Bashful Blue and Pear Pizzazz as the main colours and Blushing Bride and Sahara Sand as accents. So of the three Tees on my washing line two are Bashful blue and one is Pear green. I used an aquapainter to pick up ink for colouring. Once they were coloured I trimmed them out. Then mounted on dimensionals above a whisper White layer that I had sponged clouds onto. The little hangers the Tees are on are hooked onto a linen thread washing line hanging from large Bashful Blue buttons. I coudn't resist adding some Tiny Tags to my little Tees, just like when you buy a new ones from the shops. Although - ahemm usually I would recommend taking the tags off before washing so I plead artistic licence for this ;). I finished off the scene by adding some Pear grass and a little Blushing Bride flower - oh and adding crystal effects to the elephant, star and duckies on the Tees. This whole image panel was mounted onto a layer of Sahara Sand and then adhered to a Bashful Blue base. I stamped all around the edge of the base layer with a little alphabet stamp (from the hostess set Cute by the Inch).

I got to admit I was really pleased with how this turned out and I even had a spare Tee left over which I used to finish off the inside. So why don't you give the colour combo a try and link your creation back to Just Add Ink this week - we'd love to see it :)
