JAI 195 Just add a colour combo

Hello :) How is everyone trekking in this crazy pre-Christmas season? I'm feeling a bit worn and have yet to send out a Christmas card - eek! (I will though). This week at Just Add Ink we have a lovely colour challenge for you. The colours are sweet and festive (in a summery way) and we also included an inspiration photo to go along with them (although you can just use the colours). And don't think you can't use the colours for a Christmas card - I did!

Here's what I came up with using the photo for inspiration.

Heavens knows why but I came up with the idea of using the chevron border punch to make a snowflake while I was at the gym. (I do find walking on the treadmill can be a good time to think ideas through especially if the guys have beaten me to the gym and put sport on the tv (boring!)). The outcome is a bit out there for me but I do like it and I do really like the colours. I'll be pulling them out for a non-traditional Christmas colour combo next year for sure again!

JAI 130 Just add Blue and Bling

Hello there :)

oooh lucky me has the day off work today to go and potter around at the Craft Fair which is in town this weekend :) Not only do I get to spend the day with a friend but spend it doing, talking, chatting, and buying ;) crafty stuff - yah!!  Hopefully you'll get the chance to have some crafty time this weekend too and you might want to try the fun challenge we have for you at Just Add Ink this week. This week we want you to add blue and bling! Here's what I came up.

Yes - back to Christmas again this week ;) But then I've just finished off my first Christmas stamp a stack for the year so Christmas is in the air here! The blue is fairly obvious ;) and for the bling - well I silver embossed dollies (snowflakes) all over the box. I also went super blingy for the tag. I got my hands on silver glimmer paper at Convention and I just couldn't resist using it here. More silver embossing and finally the bling was wrapped up with a rhinestone. The little box (2, 4, 6, 8 box) is quick and simple to make. You can find the tutorial that I used here.  The only change I made was to make a sturdy (but decorative) handle from cardstock. To finish it, all I had to do then was fill a cellophane bag with some yummy choccies and tie it up with some matching ribbon.

JAI 77 - just add a sketch

welcome to  another Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have an interesting sketch for you. A good sketch I might add but it might take some thinking ;) Want to see? Ok here you go.

And here is what I did with it.

The inside

Hmm now that I compare my card to the sketch well it looks like I took a bit more lee way with it than I intended - thats what you get for working from memory instead of actually looking at the sketch! This might be my first official Christmas card for the blog this year - but then Christmas has been on my mind for the last couple of months as for the first time I am running Christmas card classes this year!! So I have been busy prepping designs for that and this card arose from that. One motivation being to create a green and purple Christmas card. So I translated the zig zag element going up the card into the Plum swirls from which I could hang my ornaments. I arranged my ornaments to represent the three staggered blocks of the sketch (well I thought I had - see what I mean about not looking at the sketch when I was putting it together). I actually knotted some silver cord and threaded it through a hole pierced in the top layer for each ornament, then mounted each ornament up on dimensionals. The Christmas sentiment represents the flower element coming up from the bottom of the sketch. My own personal addition was to add a extra section to the card at the bottom, using some Perfect Plum Pattern Stack DSP and Saffron grosgrain at the division. You can probably tell - but the card is quite a bit longer than the standard A5, 10.5 cm x 21 cm (4 1/8 x 8 1/4") in fact (to fit a business sized envelope). I haven't made a card this size for ages and I must admit it was nice to play around with that size for a change!

JAI 45 -just add a sketch

ooh ooh we have a great sketch for you at Just Add Ink this week. So good in fact that I made two cards for it, even though its my week off from the DT;) You can check out my following post for the second card I made. Having waved my arms around telling you how fab this sketch is, I had better show you the sketch - ehh! Here it is.


Well at this time of year you can probably guess what is coming your way - yep its a Christmas card - and oh my did I have fun playing with some new stuff!!

I'm quite fond of a blue/red colour combo for Christmas cards so that is what I started with - Riding Hood Red and Bashful Blue. So I cut a RHR A frame base and round the top left and bottom right corners. Next I cut a Bashful Blue mat, and then embossed it with the Vintage Wallpaper folder. Next step was sponging around the edges with Bashful Blue ink, then with Champagne Mist shimmer paint. Before I attached the blue embossed layer I SNAILed some gorgeous striped RHR grosgrain ribbon across. The focal point for the card is a stamped RHR bauble from Delightful Decorations, punched out with the matching punch (love this). To decorate the bauble I tied a silver cord bow around the top and added a star brad (non SU). The bauble was mounted on dimensionals over a mat of embossed Bashful Blue, sprayed with Champagne Mist shimmer spray, which was matted onto a RHR base with a scallop trim border. I had a lot of fun playing with my shimmer paint and bauble punch making this one - there is a gorgeous shimmer IRL just sparkling off the card - but its darn hard to photograph :(
