JAI 167 Just add fabric

Well hello there :)
I'm still catching up on sleep as I write this from a fabulous few days spent at the SU! South Pacific convention. I had such a lovely time catching up with the rest of the JAI girls there, and some other special friends (waving hi to Di, Sam and Kelly!!!). The convention itself was stuffed full of fabulous creative inspiration - I have so many ideas - I just have to find time to play with them now! But it was a real delight to come home to hugemongeous cuddles from my two munchkins :)

Anyway on to this weeks Just Add Ink challenge - and it's a fun one. We want you to Just Add Fabric. A few weeks ago I had a wedding card to make for a special crafting friend and so I pulled out some fabric, heart framelits and went to work.

I got to put an idea I saw presented, by Marelle Taylor at the Sydney SU! regionals last year, into play for this card. Marelle presented a christmas card where she filled the ornament punch shape with fabric then stuffed it with cotton wool. So I took that concept and plumped up my central fabric heart by adding cotton wool stuffing behind it. Next I added a sparkly wedding text heart then the top layer - embossed and distressed honeycomb. The finishing touch was a sentiment banner. It's simple but I hope a little special!

Thanks for visiting, do check out the rest of the DT for fun and fabulous Just Add Fabric ideas!

JAI 166 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
well welcome back for a special two week - lots of the JAI team are away at the South Pacific SU! convention challenge - you can't tell we are excited about that can you  - lol. Ok so what is the Just Add Ink challenge? - well its a lovely colour combo.

And here is what I came up with.(Apologies about the dull lighting - with winter coming on here in Aus the window for decent lighting is pretty narrow :( )

The top down foliage, if I can put it that way, was inspired by I card I saw a few weeks ago on Pinterest. I was intrigued and I must admit I'm glad I had a play with the idea - cause it turned out nice! To lighten up the colours I added a lot of the detail by white embossing, and of course you get that lovely shine and texture as a bonus. To fill in the gaps between the larger flowers I added little punched ones dressed up with pearls.

This is a lovely colour combo - it has such a fresh feel. Do check out the rest of the DT for some fabulous inspiration. Hope you can join us!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Merry Monday 62 - Tweetie Bird

Hello there,
well I didn't quite have the time last week to play along with the Merry Monday challenge  :( but at least part of the reason was because I was putting together my guest designer card for this week's challenge :). So...drum roll...(lol)...this weeks Merry Monday challenge is...

Cool sketch huh! I ended up turning it upside down and I think it totally works this way too!

I coloured that sweet tweetie bird with copics, sponged some sky around it and finished it off with some sparkly stickles on its hat. I love the fresh feel of pale blue, red, white and dark brown for Christmas and it just seemed to suit this bird to a T. A bit of woodgrain embossing gives a rustic feel and I can't go past a some baker's twine!

Please do check out the fabulous sketch inspiration from the Merry Monday DT and have fun with the sketch!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 165 Just add woodgrain

Hello there,
well we are back with a very fun challenge for you this week at Just Add Ink. This week we want you to Just Add Woodgrain. Having just got back recently from Hawaii I had tropical blooms still on my mind so I went rather very bright!

I did say bright didn't I :) I couldn't resist going the whole way and making a "wood" frame that was Melon Mambo with the inside edge rolled in Real Red. (Just imagine the really really pink/red fingers I had after stamping that!). The flowers really do remind me of the gorgeous hibiscus flowers we saw in Hawaii. Beautiful combinations of yellow, red and pink. To tone it down (just a little) I used black accents and sentiment.

Thanks for visiting, hope you can join us this week and don't forget to check out the fabulous woodgrain inspiration from the rest of the DT.

Merry Monday 59 - Tree Tops

 Hello there,
well finally I've made it back to the Merry Monday challenge. The last month has been kind of busy! School holidays to manage and a fun family trip away! Then it was back to work which has been crazy busy and is going to stay that way - for a bit anyway. Anyway in the gaps this week I squeezed in the sketch that Lesley came up with for this week.

My starting point was to make a red/green Christmas card, I've noticed that I have a tendency to lean towards blue! So green and Christmas = christmas tree and the end result is what you see. The Christmas tree has a bit of a distressed/vintage feel so I paired it up with some text DSP, and added some extra layers of ink by stamping and sponging over the top of it. That will be it for me tonight. It's getting late - and if I leave this till the morning I'll miss the challenge. So its good night from me :)

Hope to see you next week, thanks for visiting.
Kim

JAI 164 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well after a bit of a break (in Hawaii no less) its back to catching up with my design team challenges. I enjoyed the change of pace but it was nice to come home and get inky again :) I've also been delving into SU! My Digital Studio - what a learning curve! But I really love the possibilities it offers. May'be I'll even get to put together a photo book on the holiday!

Anyway onto this weeks Just Add Ink challenge. This week we want you to add a sketch.
This how mine worked out.

May'be the warm weather in Hawaii inspired the springy feel of todays offering! In a bit of a doh momment I only realised as I was overlaying the trimmed out elements that of course they wouldn't overlay perfectly as I'd cut the bottom coloured panel up and spaced it out as a grid. To minimise this I had to cut the two larger sprays into much smaller pieces. I also wanted to leave some of the grid visible so you can see designs origin from the sketch. I used the ink pad lids and my aquapainter for all the colouring.

I wanted something special for my Mum's birthday and I think this fits the bill. Even if outside the window we have a carpet of colourful autumn leaves on the ground!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
