Just Add Ink #395 Inspiration

Hello there,
the first cluster of birthdays for the year is happening in my house right now. This year I collaborated with my DD on her card. She wanted an inspirational quote, a watercolour wash in the background (in a faint shade of pinkish purple) and some yellow flowers. So first we sat down and looked up quotes, then I swatched out some shades of ink and she picked her favourite and I put it all together in a card! With the work and back to school juggle on I am really short of time right now, but fortuitously, I think what DD wanted is also a good fit for this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week Kelly is asking us to Just Add Inspiration. You can use the colours, patterns, objects anything in the picture to inspire your project. Here's the picture.

Here's how it turned out.

DD picked a Disney quote from Thumper for her card. It's an interesting choice but I am hoping she will use it to inspire herself to face her insecurities, a challenge for anyone! My first challenge was how to get the whole quote to fit on the card front. In the end I settled on a mix of two alphabets, one to highlight a couple of words and the other small enough I could fit it all in. Honestly it was laborious to stamp the words and emboss them and hoping for a better outcome I drew pencil lines all over the front to try and keep my stamping all straight and lined up - it mostly worked. But it was DD's birthday card so of course I did it! Wink of Stella on the flowers, some sparkly sequins and stitched detail finished it all off. DD approved the end result - hooray!

Do check out the rest of the projects from the Just Add Ink DT they are fabulous! Then come back and join us.

JAI #371 Just Choose Two

Hello there,
I felt the need to create something pink and sparkly this week. The depths of winter was part of the reason but it was also because I needed to make a birthday card for my soon to be seven year old niece. The new challenge at Just Add Ink this week was just perfectly suited as this week Di has asked us to Just Choose Two and the choices...

See what I mean! Perfect. Here's the pink and sparkly creation. The cat is my 'pet' element and as you'll see, rather usually for me, I used 'patterned paper' for my background.

The kitties head wobbles!

The inside.

Big kids and little kids all like an interactive element so as soon as I decided to use the cat for my nieces card I knew I had to add something that would capture her attention and what could be better than a wobble head! It was super easy to put together having little double sided tape attachments for the base and top. Aside from pink, sparkle is right up there as an essential ingredient for seven year old, so I die cut some glimmer foliage to frame the cat and then finished the card off with a fun birthday sentiment.

The JAI design team have a lots of gorgeous projects to show you so make sure you stop by their blogs, then join us for the challenge! Thanks for visiting!

JAI #368 Use birthday to make Christmas

Hello there,
well this week has been a bit busier and also chillier (the kids enjoyed smashing the ice sheet that formed each night on our little fountain outside though)! The chill weather is actually a perfect segway to our new challenge at Just Add Ink this week. This week Kelly has asked us to Just add a twist - the twist? Well, to use a birthday set to create a Christmas card. So get out all your birthday sets and look at them in a different way - it takes a bit of creative thinking but it's such a fun way to see if you can get more use from your stamps!

Here's what I came up with.

I spotted the string of lights in Confetti Celebration and couldn't get the idea out of my mind of using them as Christmas lights. But what to drape them on?? I settled on the sweet little elephant from A Little Wild. I kind of liked the idea that he could hold them up using his trunk. It took some fiddly masking (I had to stamped the lights first so they would be in front of the elephant) which meant I had to cut teeny tiny light masks. But rather remarkably I managed to get everything in the right place first go! Then I coloured up my elephant and lights before fancying the lights up with wink of stella and then a coat of fine tip glue pen to get a lovely glossy sheen. For the background I brayered up a night sky, adding some texture with a splatter of white gouache and the gleam of gold stars. There had to be stars with for my elephant to wish on!

I was delighted my minds concept worked out so well (big smile). We'd love you to join the challenge this week, before you do though, go and check out the projects from the rest of the design team!

Kim

JAI #353 Critters

Hello there,
this week has been a bit rough. Our dearly beloved fur baby, our 18 year old cat is not well. Perhaps, appropriately this weeks Just Add Ink challenge is kind of about him. This week Karren suggested a fun one for us all. Just Add Critters. So find all those animal stamps and get to work!

The cattery we take our boy to when we go away is run by dedicated, passionate and truly caring people and they were super helpful when we had to make some last minute adjustments to our Christmas booking last year. So as soon as I saw this stamp I knew I had to make a thank you card for them.

Our boy is a chocolate Burmese so I tried to colour the cat on the top of the heap a bit like him. In his younger years he definitely wanted to be top cat! I coloured my heap of cats with copic markers and I had to add some tassels - cause what pussy cat can resist a tassle!

Don't forget to check out the fun array of critter cards from the Just Add Ink DT this week.

Kim

JAI #325 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
oh my goodness what a change  - spring sprung into life this week - I'm sure it won't last but it was so nice to be lured outside by the sun and the few flowers brave enough to be out already. The almost new season also heralds the beginning of family birthday season. The new challenge at Just Add Ink this week  - to Just Add a Sketch from Tina - was just perfect for a fun card I thought up for my nephew. Here's the sketch.

And here is what I came up with.

My nephew has grown up by the seaside and loves to go to the beach so I created a fun underwater scene. I used a jar as the circle sketch element and turned it into a fun shaker house for a fishy. I also built in a little puzzle for my nephew using the new Labeler alphabet to create the inside outside riddle.

Hope you can join us for some sketchy fun at Just Add Ink this week! Don't forget to drop past the rest of the DT for some inspiration.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
