Just Add Ink #552 Inspiration

 

Hello there,

this week at Just Add Ink Nikki has asked us to Just Add Inspiration. Use elements in the inspiration picture below in your project - it could be the colours, patterns, or an object, just make them a main feature. 

Flowers were a no brainer for me, but yellow was going out of my comfort zone, it's not really a colour I gravitate to. But then that's what challenges are all about. So yellow flowers was where I headed. Here's the result.

I actually turned out pretty happy with my yellow roses. To get some size variation I used flowers from two sets. The big blooms from So Much Love, were very fine lined so to match the line weight with my smaller blooms I went over all the lines with a 0.3 mm marker. The door and its panel pattern inspired the border frame I added to my card, and I added the cloudy sky just because I liked it (and I rediscover my cloud stencil ;). My blooms were all coloured in with alcohol markers, trimmed out and swished with Wink of Stella. I added a sprinkle of yellow gems to finish it all off.

Just Add Ink #542 Inspiration

life's been kind of hectic and busy but I managed to snag some time to create my project for this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week Lou has asked us to Just Add Inspiration. You can use the colours, objects, patterns or textures to inspire the main elements of your project. Here's the inspiration picture.

This week several elements of the inspiration picture caught my attention - the colours, and the idea of greenery against a wall. Here's how it turned out.

I do love a colourful blended background so I started with that, created a window using dies, and then coloured some floral elements to go into my window box. This is simple and a different colour palette then I normally use but I really liked how the colours work together. I always finish my cards with some sparkles, in this instance Wink of Stella and some sequins.

Just Add Ink #527 Sketch

I am almost coming to the end of the family birthday season. It's kind of funny how families often have birthdays in clumps and mine is no exception. I used the new Just Add Ink challenge, this week it's time to Just Add a Sketch (my design), to make a birthday card for my niece. Pink and girly are still very much the order of the day. To make it extra special I made it a spinner card. Here's the sketch.

And this is how it turned out.

The stamp only showed the front view of the the girl, so I had to improvise to create a back view for my spinner to work. To do so I jury-rigged a light box, and place the stamped image face down with another piece of card stock taped into place on top. Then using an alcohol friendly fine marker, traced the image, and filled in the details necessary (e.g. hair instead of a face) to get a backview. Probably the trickiest bit was trimming the front and back images out simultaneously.

The spinner element was inserted in an oval cut into the front of the card. To obscure the message that would be inside I added a vellum insert that would fold over. The spinning princess was surrounded by garlands of pink glittery (alcohol ink) coloured flowers and a little sprinkle of sequins. Was it a bit fiddly - yes but I aways try and go that extra bit for the kids in the family. Birthday are such a big deal for them :)

Just Add Ink #508 'F'

Hello there,
well Winter officially began this week and you can certainly feel it! However, on the upside that does mean quality time snuggled up at home with the heaters on. I did spend a lot of time inside colouring and fussy cutting for this weeks Just Add Ink challenge. This week Tina is asking us to Just Add 'F'. That means the main element of your project must be something beginning with 'F'. It could be an animal - think 'frog", or a technique, think "faux" or a fancy fold like "flip flap" or "flower pot" card. This was a no brainer for me, 'F' is for flowers - and I had some new ones to play with!

Here's how it turned out.

I was thinking wildflower meadow - so lots of different flowers and lots of colours and I got to say I love how it turned out. It took a lot of colouring and a lot of fussy cutting, and I think I used every Blend colour there is, but it's so pretty! All I did to finished it all off was add a swish of Wink of Stella over all the flowers. I love the new embossing folder texture too - sooo versatile.
