JAI 234 Just add Baby

Hello there,
I've had a lovely week this week. It's been warm and that has meant cups of tea in the garden and the school holidays has meant time to have cups of tea in the garden :) The deal I made with the kids was that I'll take them out for activities in the morning and the afternoon we'd be at home and they'd have to occupy themselves.  What are you going to be doing Mum? they asked. Stamp was my answer!! Cause I'm on holiday too - lol!

This week we have a very useful challenge at Just Add Ink  - it's Just add Baby. One of the girls on the JAI DT is expecting her first bub very soon (how exciting!!) and to celebrate we decided a baby challenge was the perfect thing :) So please join us and show us your baby projects.

Since we don't know if bub is going to be a boy or girl I made one of each.

As you can see they both follow the same plan but I just changed up the colours and decorative details on each. The concept started with knowing I wanted to do an emboss resist effect with the big scale sentiment. I've been pulling out a watercolour paper a bit recently and it's been fun to combine it with reinkers and seeing how it all turns out! I carried the themes through to the inside using the new SU! stencils to created the sponged spotty/starry patterns.

JAI 228 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,

well its been another busy week here BUT finally no one was sick this week - maybe winter is on its way out! We actually have flowers in the garden here so spring must be on the way too although the temperatures don't reflect it yet. So in the spirit of spring, and cause it gives me the chance to play with some more new stampin stuff ;) I have another flower card for you. This week at Just Add Ink we have a colour challenge for you from me! Here it is.

 I got to play with my new photopolymer background stamp set - love it!!

 Another week where I can't get the colour balance right for the inside!!! (Grrr)

I started out intending the card to be vertical but by happenstance had turned my gradient background horizontal and in one instant the layout changed. To do something different with the Blended Bloom flower I decided to step it up this week by colouring extra layers lifting them up with dimensionals. I trimmed out some stamped off leaves too for one side of the flower and added flags on the other side to balance it all out.

JAI 220 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well I have a another very spring like card today probably to counter the mid winter dark and cold we are having right now. Was so darn cold this week - brrrr.

This week we have a sketch for you at Just Add Ink. I think you will find that it lends itself to being CAS or more elaborate if you like. I think this week I kind of ending up some where in the middle - lol! Here's the sketch.

And here is what I made of it.

The embossed vellum overlay is only attached at the top, and to make sure it wasn't going any where I sewed it in place with my sewing machine. The only other point to note is that I coloured the flowers using markers and also using ink from ink pad lids using an aquapainter. The combination of both lets you get a more intense colour.

JAI 137 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
we had some fabulous and fun kids cards for the challenge last week at Just Add Ink. I think you're going to like what we have in store for you this week too, a wonderfully classic sketch. I was in full on Father's Day card making mode when this sketch came up so - yep you guessed it ;) today it's a Father's day card. The best thing was that my Dad was actually visiting when it was Father's Day which was really nice! Here's the sketch.

And here is what I came up with.

I literally pulled my Apothecary Accent die out of its delivery box to make this - sooo fun to play with new stuff! But it was worth waiting for as it was just perfect for this card and for that matter so was the "world's greatest" stamp. Ok granted I'm biased, but my Dad is the greatest - see perfect :) It's hard to go past a bit of rustic texture for masculine cards and that's definitely how this one came out. Texture from the lattice embossing mat, the woodgrain DSP, faux stitching (that was inspired by receiving a gorgeous card from a lovely friend - thanks Christine!!), vintage brads and a couple of banners to frame the "Dad" sentiments. In real life the inside did not have that dodgy grey spodging at the bottom I had to photoshop out what I wrote to my Dad and that was the best I could get :( Technology and I are still on a learning curve!
