Just Add Ink #750 Colour

Hello,
this week's Just Add Ink challenge is a colour challenge suggested by Lou. It's quite striking being a mix of some bright summery colours with a hit of black.

I had to make a very special birthday card, and I thought this combo could work for my feature hydrangea bloom. Here's how it turned out.

The hydrangea is the star here. To really step it up I used the stencils to first colour a version in Peach Pie, then a separate version in Pretty in Pink. Then I fussy cut out the Peach Pie blooms and layered them over the pink base layer. To really step up the sparkle, I added some gold shimmer paint into drops of Wink of Stella and liberally swished all the flowers with shimmery mix. I kept the background white but added detail with the Pattern of Friendship die, and a scallop frame. The bold but fine line die cut 'happy birthday' and gold foil numbers were added to finish the front, along with gold cording and a scatter of gold pearls.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous project for the challenge so please go check them and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #699 Colour

Hello,
time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink and this week Di has given us a colour challenge filled with vibrant tones. Here it is.

Berry Burst made me think of flowers so that's the path I went down. Here's how it turned out.

After I coloured in the flowers adding layers of colour using the matching masks, and a little blending, they had a bit of a vintage feel to them so I paired them up with a scalloped mat. The element that really snapped the design in place was the inked up embossing for the background. As soon as I paired that with the flowers I new the design was on the right track. It's so nice when you have one of those moments when things click into place!

I experimented with the inside flowers little, adding some of the Starry Sky ink in the centres to get a more purple tone. Adding little white gel pen accents also really helped the flowers pop. Wink of Stella, sequins and the matching twine from my stash helped to finish it all off.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of gorgeous projects to show you so please go check them and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #654 Colour

Hello,
time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink and this week Rochelle is asking us to Just Add a Colour combo. The bright palette of colours is a nice change from winter setting in here, although I do love the vibrant Autumn colours we get - while there is still leaves on the trees.

This is what I came up with this week.

This bright, very summery combo of colours was perfect for my birthday card project. For the background, over a base of Tahitian Tide, to add a little interest I used an old SU! stencil to add vertical tone-on-tone stripes. Then splattered the background with Wink of Stella and gouache. The flowers and foliage were stamped and I then used the matching blends to add some extra depth and shading. Then I arranged the flowers to frame the delicate die cut sentiment.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects to show you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #578 Sketch

Hello there,
we are fast heading towards Christmas, you may have already noticed a trend towards Christmas cards her on the blog so don't expect that to change. This week at Just Add Ink, Narelle is asking us to Just Add a Sketch. Here's the sketch.

And here is how my project turned out.

It took me a while to mull over what elements I wanted to use on the right hand side, but once I settled on a tree, I knew I wanted a deer to be curled at the bottom. That peaceful scene led me to the sentiment.

For the tree I pulled out my Pine Wood dies, there is no outline stamps for the tree die, so having die cut a tree I just drew in the 'stamped' lines myself. Then coloured with Blends. The scene led itself to a rustic background so I embossed a woodgrain background then splattered that with Wink of Stella and white gouache. The rectangle panel in the sketch acts as a grounding element for my scene and sentiment. To add a bit of Christmas bling I gold embossed the sentiment (which is very challenging to capture in a photo) and added a gold metallic enamel star from my stash.

I feel like the simple design and neutral colours suits the peaceful 'nature' feel the project has.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects to show you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Kim

Just Add Ink #550 Colour Combo

Hello there,
this week at Just Add Ink Jo has suggested that we Just Add a Colour Combo. For me the colours were perfectly suited to a flower card, although in all honesty I can just about turn any challenge into a flower card! Here are the colours.

And this is how it turned out.

I hadn't used my Jar of Flowers set for a while and decided it was perfect for this project. So I stamped and coloured flowers, trimmed them out, cut them apart and then created two jar bouquets. Using a black patterned paper against the colours created a nice strong contrast and elegant feel for the front. A cute sentiment tag, a swish of wink of stella and some clear gems finished the card off.

The Just Add Ink DT have some lovely projects to show you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge!

Kim

Just Add Ink #538 Sketch

Hello there,
this week at Just Add Ink Patrice has asked us to Just Add a Sketch. I found it super easy to work with and took a pretty literal approach, and went back to an old favourite technique of mine  - blended backgrounds. Here's the sketch.

This is how it all turned out!

Creating my own backgrounds is something I love to do, and the more inky the better! I used sponge brayers here to blend a transition of Pool Party, Coastal Cabana in from each end and finished off with Bermuda Bay between the two. This gave me a lovely gradual transition of colour in from each end. To add lots of texture I splattered with water, then Wink of Stella, white gouache and black ink. I ended up with more black splatter in the lower corner, than I perhaps would have wanted but I guess that unpredictable aspect is part of the fun of adding texture this way.

To get the different colour tones on my flowers I inked up my floral stamp with markers. The rest was all die cutting and assembly. I loved the bright complementary colours - it's very happy!

The rest of the Just Add Ink design team have lots of beautiful projects to show you, so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #525 Thank You

Hello there,
it's Friday and that means it's time for a new Just Add Ink challenge. This week Chantell is asking us to Just Add Thank You.

It's hard to go wrong with flowers for thank you cards so I added plenty of them!

Working out the right combination of colours for the layers in the flowers was a very inky process but in the end I was happy with how they all turned out. In case you are curious here are the SU! colour combinations.

Biggest pale flower: Base layer- Blushing Bride, Mid layer - stamped off Magenta Madness, Top detail layer - Melon Mambo

Mid sized mid pink flower: Base layer - Stamped off Magenta Madness, Mid Layer - Magenta Madness, Top detail layer - Merry Merlot

Small darkest flower: Base layer - Melon Mambo, Mid layer - Merry Merlot, Top detail layer - Rich Razzleberry

The leaves were stamped in Mint Macaron and Shaded Spruce.

To add a bit of sparkle all the flowers were stamped on Shimmery White card stock, and then swiped very carefully with Wink of Stella, and a scatter of rhinestones finished it all off.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of wonderful projects to show you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.
