Swirly silhouettes

Hi there,

I got to play with a whole bunch of new aquistions on this card, punches, stamps, rub ons, which was great. I had been itching to get my Pocket Silhouettes inked up but hadn't had the chance till now so when I saw Kristina Werner's latest colour challenge I decided to try them out. Firstly here are the colours she picked for this week's challenge.

It was a bit tricky but I also managed to get a shot of the clear glaze on the flowers.



The starting point for this card was really to try a bunch of new stuff - punches in particular. I knew I wanted to have the image(s) in squares surrounded by scallops and then probably have a punched border below. The white SU Organdy ribbon (retired) I had was perfect to thread through the punched border slots and unexpectedly but rather nicely allowed the Rose Red to filter through from below. Swirly Rose red DSP seemed to balance and compliment the flower panels too. Finally to give the card a little bit of bling I went over all the little flower head dots with my clear Sakura glaze (aqualip) pen.

Glitter, glitter everywhere....

that what's the kitchen = my working space, looked like when I was done with this card. The card was made for Kristina Werner's 50th colour challenge. Here are the colours.

It was a scary one - lots of bright colours balanced by brown. This time I started by flicking through our new catalogue trying to find some inspiration in the samples there. I did find inspiration but not from a sample, from a stamp. One from the Say it with Scallops set on page 141 of the new Aussie catty. To fit the letters in (spelling "congrats") I went for an unconventional card size 4 1/2 by 5 7/8 (or 11.5 by 15 cm), it may be rather hard to post but at the momment I don't have any one in mind for it anyway.

Here's the card. I found it very difficult to photograph, all the colours kept bleaching out. This was my best shot.

Finally here is a flatish view showing the glitter and how all the letters are up on dimensionals.


Special points to note, include lots of glitter, I actually had trouble as initially my versamark seemed to be vapourising. (We had everything closed up and the heaters going as the whole family was home sick.) Reinking the pad helped but most of the letters, I stamped and then went over with a versamark pen. Then poured over the heat and stick powder. Heated it and then finally the Dazzling Diamonds. I also cuttlebugged the bottom strip of the card as well as the two layered stars. Then finished off with layered ribbons (tying that bow took some practise!!).

So Very Saffron

well this is not the vintage-ish card I mentioned last post although it has a similar feeling. Hopefully I will be able to write that post soon. This card is in response to two challenges - fortuitously a sketch challenge from Mojo Monday and the latest colour challenge from Kristina Werner. Here's the sketch and the colour selections.

I had been thinking about the Mojo sketch all week and had already decided I wanted to use the flower from Touch of Nature, and when I saw Kristina's colours it was a perfect match. The card is basically So Saffron and Chocolate Chip, which turns out to be a lovely combo. I don't have Tangerine Tango so I used Pumpkin Pie instead and I have to admit, only a little to accent the centre of the flower. The flower I coloured using an aquapainter and my ink pads. Other points to note are the cuttlebug background (Floral Screen), ribbon, my new punch, Fyskar's (Cristina Re) Florentine and some DSP courtesy of Jayne Mercer (thanks).

I finished the inside off simply by punching down one side and then layering over some ribbon.

Happy Happy Birthday

well Kristina's colours initially had me stumped in this week's challenge. But I kept turning them over in my head, and eventually decided to try a mostly white background (all white did not work) and have little mixed and matched swatches of this weeks colours and just use black as an accent. First here are Kristina's colour picks for the week.

I went with a square card to balance the shape of the little square swatches and because of the pinks it had to be a girly card, so I wanted to add some extra girly touches - brads, ribbon, rhinestone, scallops. The final point to note is that the sentiment is black embossed (my first time using black !). Overall I'm reasonably happy with how it turned out, not perhaps my normal "style" so not bad for a first go.

Its a bit hard to see but all the panels are stamped with a little flower from Eastern Blooms, I stamped off once before stamping because I didn't want the flowers to dominate but given how light they are perhaps I shouldn't have. Live and learn. I haven't finished off the inside yet as I am only only to make the deadline by the skin of my teeth as it is.

Kristina Werner Colour Challenge # 38

well this was my first go ever at a Kristina Werner colour challenge, I have been watching everyone all over blogdom doing them and finally I took the plunge and did one. As I hadn't started my blog yet I posted this to the Eastern Blooms gallery on Splitcoaster as well as to my album there. Here are the colours Kristina chose:



Circles and flowers and Eastern Blooms were all still in my head and so I incorporated a bit of all of that into the card and I wanted to get some texture in there as well. So there are lots of little details - rock and rolling of the central flower as well as clear embossing it, cuttlebug embossing of the mount behind it and piercing of the punched circles that make up the scallops on the central element, the brads etc. I wanted it to reflect her inspiration photo as well - so that is why I went with the Petals wheel - it had quite a bit of white space in it and the flowers are actually quite similar to those seem on the notepad. Anyway here is my card and the recipe will follow.

Kristina Werner Colour Challenge # 39

Hi there,

when I first saw the colours for the latest colour challenge - I was gobsmacked - it certainly wasn't a combo that I thought came to me naturally. First I had an idea of trying to combine the last Mojo Monday sketch with the challenge and I also also had a simpler idea. I decided to go with the simpler idea first - just as well because my almost one year baby boy started to throw up at 9 pm last night and didn't stop for a couple of hours. So it was a late night - of NOT card making. However I did manage to finish my simple version this morning. I still have Pick-a-petal in my head, so I mulled over the colured petals matted on black, blacked stamped petals matted on colour but in the end the version I liked best was black stamped onto coloured card. So here it is - very simple - but I kind of like it.
