Just Add Ink # 467 Sketch

Hello there,
I'm working on a bit of a Christmas in July theme, always a handy way to kick start my Christmas card stash! The new challenge from Just Add Ink, this week Just Add a Sketch from Lou, was the perfect starting point for another card. Here's the sketch.

While I am eagerly waiting for this years new SU! Christmas catalogue I pulled out an old favourite from last year to create a summer season Christmas card.

How can you make a cute image like this even better? Create a polaroid frame for it!

Tip: Use a rectangle framelit to cut a stitched rectangle panel, then pick a smaller square that fits within, place it more towards one end and then cut the square panel out.

When I was putting my card together I wanted to add some more depth and interest to my embossed background. The simple way of doing that was to brayer ink over the top in a gradient. I went tone on tone and used Balmy Blue ink over Balmy Blue cardstock.

The rest of my card was all about colouring with blends, something I always find relaxing.

The rest of the Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects to show you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #465 The Season

Hello there,
the new Just Add Ink challenge this week will be perfect for you where ever you are in the world. This week Nikki is asking us to Just Add the Season. We want your project to be inspired by the season where you are, or your favourite season. Here in Australia it's winter and we're alternating between cold, clear blue skies to grey, cold and gloomy. Today was cold and gloomy so I was very happy to be typing this as I sat on the couch, layered in blankets with a hot water bottle for my feet!

Since it's also July I decided to pair winter with a Christmas in July theme and make my first official Christmas card for the year.

I was originally going to have a glimmer snow bank for my deer to be jumping from but as I thought about where I was going to put a sentiment I decided instead to create an ombre sentiment background to ground my deer. The stamparatus was absolutely essential for this, to align and re-align the sentiment, and align and re-align... you get the idea.  The texture was added to my brayered background, by flicking on water drops, wink of stella and then flecks of white gauche. Since my background was a single layer, I added some dimension by stacking my silver foil deer on three additional white deer die cuts. A little scatter of rhinestones finished it all off.  Stamping the sentiment background was fiddly but well worth the effort as I really loved how it turned out.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of wonderful projects to show you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Colour INKspiration #59

Hello there,
welcome to the Colour INKspiration 59 blog hop. If you are hopping your way around the blog hop, you will have arrived from Jan Clothier's blog. If you are starting the hop here but would like to go to the start at the  Colour INKspiration challenge page over on Facebook, just click the link to be redirected and ask to join the group, that way you can load your projects directly to the Facebook group.

Here's the INKspiration picture for this week. This week it's filled with a subtle wintery tones featuring Seaside Spray, Smoky Slate, Very Vanilla and Early Espresso.

Here what I came up with.

I needed a sympathy card for a friend and I thought this subtle palette of colours would work well for that. I started by brayering my background scene, remembering to mask off my setting sun in the distance first.

TIP: To break my scene up into 'windows' I created my own window cover plate by die cutting smaller rectangles out of my larger panel. My middle rectangle was the right width but not long enough so I used partial die cutting to begin the cut on one end (see below). Then reset the die to cut the other end. As long as you have your top plate on your die cut machine set back, so it doesn't cover the end of the rectangle you don't want to cut, it will be a success!

I finished off the card by layering a mix of nautical elements to frame my sailing boat.

Hope you can join us and have some fun too! The challenge runs till Monday 22nd July so there is plenty of time to join in. Next up, on the blog hop is Cathy Pinchbeck with a lovely project. Enjoy!
