JAI #348 Ombre

Hello there,
well I've been busy busy busy. Busy at work, busy at home and busy crafting. I guess the good side to all that, is that I will have plenty to show you in the future! But right now it's time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week our new challenge come from Rochelle. She is asking you to Just Add Ombre.

The JAI team enjoyed playing with the theme this week and this is what I came up with - a masculine-ish card for an uncle.

The inside.

I had a lot of fun playing with ombre effects here. First, I brayered a transition of blue inks onto both DSP and a Very Vanilla mat, taking care to make the light to dark go left to right on one, and right to left on the other (this is important!) Then I used the Sunburst thinlet die to cut the DSP. Taking the sunburst diecut I layered that over the brayered Very Vanilla mat. The end effect is two ombre transitions! As even masculine cards need bling I added a silver embossed sentiment, stitching with silver thread and a scattering of tiny silver glimmer stars. To complete the inside I sponged rays using an acetate template cut with the Sunburst thinlet die.

Do go and check out the rest of the teams fabulous ombre creations! And please join in the fun too!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Hello there,
well today I have the pleasure of debuting as a member of the Colour INKspiration Design Team (which is quite exciting!)

If you are hopping your way around the blog hop, you will have arrived from Bronwyn Eastley's blog and I'm sure you were blown away by her awesome project! If you are starting the hop here but would like to go to the start at the  Colour INKspiration challenge page over on Facebook, just click the link or banner up top to be redirected and ask to join the group, that way you can load your projects directly to the Facebook group and join in the fun every 2nd and 4th Wednesday.

Here's the INKspiration swatch for the new challenge - it's full of colour!

And here is what I created.

That lovely yellow canary(?) caught my eye and so a bird it was. The end result is a little bold, a little lush and perhaps vintage. The challenge runs till March 6. Hope you can join us ! Now next up on the blog hop is Mel Pagano. Enjoy!

JAI #347 Colour

Hello there,
well thank goodness we had some relief from the unrelenting heat this week. My poor garden has suffered though I am hoping that if we get some rain we might get some flowers as we slowly transfer into autumn.

This week at Just Add Ink we want you to Just Add a Colour Combo (from me). As it happens these colours are just perfect for a bouquet of flowers (and plenty of other things too - just check out the rest of the Just Add Ink design team for some great ideas!) Here are the colours.
And here is what I came up with.

 The inside.

Well you see before you my first go at no line watercoloring. I must admit while it was underway I wasn't sure it was going to look even half way decent. But somewhat miraculously it turned out ok! Adding the black really helped the colours to pop and a big banner can hide a multitude of sins (or dodgy colouring). I finished it off with clear wink of stella to the petals and gold wink of stella splatter and also accented the flower centres with a gold signo gel pen. Regardless of how it turned out it was a fun process and I was amazed at how different the flowers looked from their stamped version (is that a good thing?)

Do join us at Just Add Ink, we'd love to see what you do with the colours this week!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #346 Choose Two

Hello there,
well the icky sticky weather has continued - and so has my search for air conditioning ;) On the positive side I can say that the heat makes glue dry really quickly (more on that below). So this week at Just Add Ink we want you to Just Choose Two. See what Nikki has picked for us this time.

And here is what I came up with.

Where this ended up was not where I started but sometimes you just need to let things go the way they want! I did like the combination of ombre embossing (I used a rolling pin to get the partial pressure so the hearts only embossed on the bottom half of the front panel) and ombre colour behind the detail of the floral thinlet. I gave the detailed die cut some substance by cutting three layers and glueing them together. Then I covered the entire surface with glue leaving it to dry to a shiny glossing coating. Hanging the 'U' from the love sentiment was a quirky touch that just appealed to me so I added it in (and I liked that it draws your eye down to the embossed hearts too).

You can have a lot of fun with the Choose two challenges - do go check out the rest of the design team for some great ideas, then come back and share your take on the challenge!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #345 Sketch

Hello there,
I know some people love the hot and balmy air of summer but in all honestly I have had enough. Actually I'd had enough of the hot temps a week ago and then it got hotter - just to spite me and there is no end in sight! Blerk! Luckily I was able to park myself under some air conditioning and work on this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week we want you to Just Add a Sketch from Narelle. Here it is.
And this is what I came up with. Once I decided the bigger circle was to be a balloon it evolved from there.

The inside.

I didn't want to turn my balloon into a big black blob (which it should strictly speaking be as a silhouette) so while I cut the intricate die in black I backed it with white and an overlay of polka dot gold foil acetate. The balloon needed a finishing touch so I made some tassels out of metallic gold thread. To create the background I first masked my sun and brayered the background. Then I created a negative mask for the sun and filled it with colour. Using a stencil cut from acetate using the Sunburst thinlet I clear embossed sun rays over the top of the whole background - yum shiny! Splashes of gold and clear Wink of Stella and a few sequins finish it all off!

Kim
