Just Add Ink #613 Colour

 

Hello there,

I couldn't resist a Christmas in July project this week as the colour challenge for Just Add Ink was just perfect for an atmospheric wintery card. Nikki suggested the following colour combo for us.

And here is how my card turned out.

I started by watercoloring my background, and once dry adding heat embossed snowflakes and some shimmer to the "lake". A die cut mountain range was the perfect divider for the sky/ lake division and adding trees to frame the scene let me add in the Mint Macaron element. The polar bear comes from a retired set but he is just too cute not to use and was simply coloured with blends. A mat of embossed woodgrain helps reinforce the natural feel and add some extra subtle texture.

The mix of colours really appealed to me and I am really happy with the result.

Just Add Ink #611 Sketch

 

Hello there,

this week at Just Add Ink we have a sketch challenge from Di. I loved how this sketch provides you with a defined focal point. Here it is.

And this is how I used it.

I added some delicate shading to my white pegasus and a pop of colour to the flight feathers, mane and tail then mounted it onto the banner element of the sketch. The background was coloured a vibrant blue, then embossed and splattered. Some sparkly gems finished off the card which I'm hoping will be appreciated by a younger teen niece. 

Overall quite simple but I think the striking image and sparkly elements make it a little special.

Just Add Ink #607 Choose Two

 

Hi there, 

we have a fun Choose Two challenge for you this week at Just Add Ink from Di. She's asking you to....

So pick two of the options and feature them in your project this week. I am - dramatic pause - not a coffee drinker - queue shocked gasps - but I love love my cup of tea. So tea and friend was the combo I was working with.

I do love a bright watercolored background, so I started with that and then coloured my tea cup to match. For that extra pop of happy colour I added a scatter of little pink and red flowers. The tea bag tag - so cute! - was the perfect way to add a sentiment. Then to finish the ribbon and twine add in that little bit of extra texture, and I love how they both echo the stripe theme.

Just Add Ink #605 Inspiration

 

Hello there,

the new challenge at Just Add Ink inspired me to pull a set out of my stash that I've had for....at least year and never seen ink. I'm sure some you are familiar with that phenomena! This week we are asking you to Just Add Inspiration suggested by no other than me. Here's the inspiration pic.

I went with a fairly clean masculine vibe for this one.

Texture, stitched detail and twine add the extra interest here, but I hope somewhat subtly as I wanted the coastal scene to be the real draw. You can actually see something very similar to this along the southern coast of Australia on the Great Ocean Road.

Just Add Ink #603 Colour

it has been a while but I'm back to blogging. Given I'm feeling a bit rusty I kept my project for this week's Just Add Ink challenge fairly classic and simple. This week Nikki is asking us to Just Add a Colour Combo. Here are the colours.

Hand-Penned Petals has quickly become one of my go to stamps sets for making quick but good looking cards. I did added some extra shading to the centre of the pink flowers and leaves by adding extra ink with a just moist aqua painter. Given this will probably serve as a sympathy card I decided to leave off any sparkle elements. Instead the wood grain background, ribbon and twine add those extra interest elements.

Just Add Ink #591 Sketch

 

Hello there,
time for a new challenge from Just Add Ink. This week Narelle is asking us to Just Add a Sketch, and here it is.

I was struggling with this one, no idea why, because it's a really appealing sketch. Only one idea came to mind so that's what I went with. The bonus was that I got to use two new stamp sets.

I tossed up whether I should use the viking on the front or his ship, but decided that the ship worked better paired with wave background stamp, so went with that. With the card being intended for a masculine recipient I kept it no frills with the details coming from the stitched edges, colouring and background stamp. I did sneak in a little Wink of Stella too.

Just Add Ink #589 Minimalist

this week at Just Add Ink Kelly has asked us to Just Add Minimalist. Now minimalism is definitely not my style at all so this was a real challenge for me. Some guidelines I found useful were that minimalism often involves repetition of multiple images of same shape, simple geometric forms lines and squares and can be characterised by a monochromatic colour scheme.

Taking that input in, this is what I came up with.

Aligning the die cuts was actually quite fussy. It sounds easy, but if you place the die at a slightly different angle across your card stock then it often won't align perfectly, especially on either end. Probably adding no embossed texture would have been more minimalistic but I had to add something to satisfy myself so I figured the uniform subtle rough texture was the best solution. Noting you need to stamp the sentiment first before you emboss. 

This probably won't be my favourite project of the year, but it definitely stretched me, which a good challenge should do, and I learnt something about minimalism which was interesting.
