JAI #256 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well finally Autumn is starting to set in - I can't tell you how much I love that fresh chill in the air and the increasing depth of colour in the leaves. Sometimes the colours are just so gorgeous I have to stop and just soak it all in!  Hopefully you will enjoy the challenge we have for you this week at Just Add Ink just as much as I'm enjoying my Autumn weather - this week we want you to Just Add a Sketch, designed by Tina. Here's the sketch.

I did struggle with the Autumn light to get a decent photograph though!

Soft, pretty and layers upon layers is where I ended up and where I started from, well I was intrigued and inspired by a post by Melissa Phillips here about adding wings to tags. I'm definitely in a vellum phase at the moment so don't be surprised if you see some more :)

Hope you can join us this week. Oh and don't forget to visit the rest of the DT to see their gorgeous creations!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #255 Just add ovals for (Easter)

Hello there,
we have a fun and possibly tasty challenge for you this week at Just Add Ink. It won't be long till Easter is upon us -so this week's challenge, from Nikki, is Just Add Ovals (for Easter).

I decided it was time to revamp the bunny egg boxes I made for my munchkins back in 2012. You can see them here. This time I gave the boxes an Australian feel.

As you can see they hold quite a few of the little solid chocolate eggs - yum! I started by doing an image search for punch art koala's and kangaroos and used an amalgamation of the images to work out the basic proportions. Then I pulled out my oval dies to select the right scale for my bunny boxes and went to work. I was tempted to go with bright colours but my conservative side said no stick with grey and brown (it's so boring sometimes!). So to add some interest I used dotty DSP for both tummies. Darling daughter picked the kangaroo to be her's as it had a heart for a nose :) Thankfully my sweet son is pretty easy going and accepted the left over koala as his (the eggs inside may have helped with that :)

I used the same dimensions as I did back in 2012 (you can find a basic template) in that post. To add just a little detail to the boxes I stamped them with a wood pattern prior to assembling them.

Hope you can join us this week for the fun challenge, that if you spin it right could involve chocolate ;)

Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT fabulous oval inspired Easter creations.

JAI #254 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
it's Friday (always a good thing - especially after a busy week) and time to share the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week we want you to Just Add a Colour Combo. This week it was my pick and rather ironically it took me a few goes to end up with something I was happy with. But then that's why they're called challenges! Here's the colours.

Here's what I came up with (the third time!).

I settled on a heart focal point to frame the sentiment. I kept that and the flower/ foliage accents fairly simply so as not to compete with the Tangelo embossed the Something Lacey background.  To add even more depth and texture I embossed the Old Olive mat. I quite like the way the front turned out but it took a while to get to that point!

Want to try your hand at the colour combo? I'd love to see what you come up with. Hope you can join us and do check out the rest of the DT - for some gorgeous colourful inspiration.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #253 Just add inspiration

Hello there,
well we've come round to another Friday and that means it's time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week we have a vibrant Just Add Inspiration challenge for you from Nikki. Here's the pic.

The colours definitely captured my attention!

I loved the look of the ripples so wanted to capture that somehow and that led me to play around with the bokeh technique. I think butterflies and bokeh must be a perfect match! Of course I needed a little bit of glitz so I deconstructed some silver taffeta and loaded up my butterflies with rhinestones. This turned out pretty :) and since I have several pink loving friends it will go to a good home.

Hope you can join us this week - do check out the rest of the DT for some gorgeous projects!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
