JAI 200 - Just add inspiration

Hello there,
this week the challenge at Just Add Ink is to Just Add Inspiration. The lovely photo Nikki picked made me think back to this past Christmas when my Mum was talking about her childhood on a farm in Europe. Both conquered up images of green fields waving with grasses and bright yellow flowers.

And here is what I made of it.

My first thought was to emboss the flowers and then watercolour over to get an emboss resist effect. I was aiming for a very earthy, natural feel and I think this worked with that. On the inside I stamped them and then blurred out the colour a little. I really liked how both turned out and I think Mum will too!

Hope you can join us - and don't forget to check out the rest of the DT for some wonderful inspiration!

Kim

JAI 199 - Just add a sketch

Hello there,
did you all enjoy the Just Add Ink blog hop last week? There are so many new techniques and projects I want to try that the girls showcased last week - when I get the time that is! This week our new challenge is to Just Add a sketch. I'm sure you'll have fun with it.
And here is what I made of it.

The idea for this began with the idea of a crepe filter paper flower. All the layers evolved from there as I wanted something blingy to top it off and something beneath to frame it. I had fun playing with all the inky layers to create the background too.  And since I had the sewing machine out I added a some stitching detail as well :)

Thanks for visiting hope you can join us and do check the rest of the DT for some wonderful inspiration for the sketch.

JAI 198 Blog Hop

Hello there :) How exciting to be starting the year off! And we are starting it in style at Just Add Ink with a blog hop and we want you to join in the fun. You may have arrived from Jodene's blog (I loved her clever gift card holder!) or you might be starting here. The blog hop works as a circuit so please do click through the rest of the JAI team to see the exciting ideas everyone has come up with for the challenge this week.

The challenge this week is to Just Add either the SU! circle or label card thinlets or the envelope punch board. (You can still play along if you don't have any of these by making your own flip/swing card from scratch - its a little more work than using the thinlets but totally doable!! Here's a link to a Splitcoasters tutorial.)

And here is what I came up with using the SU! circle card thinlet die - closed.

 Opening up
 Open all the way
This was made for my lovely little Miss who turns 9 very soon indeed. For that age its hard to go wrong with a combo of pink + purple + butterflies - so here you can see it in spades - with a good dash of sparkle to top it off. I wasn't sure adding a spiral pop up to the inside would work but I had to try - and with a little fiddling it did. Miss almost 9 has had a sneak peek of it and loved it.

I can tell you I had fun playing with my circle card thinlet for the first time! It makes creating a flip/swing card so easy - the only fiddly bit was cutting the layers to fit - but if you layer less than me (not hard to do - lol!) it will take less time.

Do continue on with the blog hop now and check out the fabulous project that Louise has in store for you. Just click on the blog hop button below (or Louises' name above) and that will take you straight to Lousie's blog.

Hope you can join us for our first challenge for 2014.

JAI 2013 Year in review

Hello there,
well another year has begun but before we get too far into it the Just Add Ink team thought it would be fun to look back to 2013 and select our favourite JAI project. I have to admit it was somewhat challenging to pick just one but I did narrow it down in the end.

So here is my top pick for 2013.

You can see the original post for it here.

And because I just couldn't resist here's the runner up.
Original post here.

Hope you are all enjoying a good holiday break. The JAI team will spring back into action January 17th with a blog hop so don't forgot to drop past then!

Kim
