JAI #277 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
the ridiculously spring-like weather last weekend may well have inspired today's card. Sadly, the warm breeze we had last weekend did not last! Perhaps, the challenge we have for you at Just Add Ink this week will remind you of spring too. This week we have a colour challenge for you (from me). Here are the colours.

And here is what I came up with.

I tried my hand at colouring my flowers using an aquapainter filled with Isocol (rubbing alcohol). It came out patchier than I was hoping for expecting, but I decided that it was an acceptable reflection of the play of light.  I couldn't resist adding a lot bit lot of black and white chevron DSP in. However, I did mute it right down by adding a layer of vellum over it.

Hope you can join us this week. Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT's wonderful projects.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #276 Just add cards for males

Hello there,
despite a freezing cold wind there are hints of spring around - my first daffodil bloomed last weekend and for me that always carries the promise of spring! It also means that it's not long till it's Father Day here in Australia. To get prepared Just Add Ink usually runs male oriented challenge this time of year. So this week our challenge is to Just Add Cards for Males suggested by Jan. It can be for whatever purpose you need one - birthday, father's day - or even a masculine style thank you card.

Here's what I came up with - something fun for my DH's upcoming birthday. There is a little surprise inside!

Brace yourselves for a few photos now.
First, what you see when you open the card.

Now you start moving the magnifying glass over - can you see the secret message start to appear?

And finally all the message is revealed!

I always have to come up with something interactive for DH's cards and this year I couldn't go past playing spy and having a secret message he can discover. I know this is going to tickle his funny bone! I think I will get a lot of use out this spy set for the kids and DH in years to come :)

Hope you can join us and show us what you think is a great card for a male.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #275 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well my winter weekends always feel jam packed so it's a challenge to fit in some stamping time but where there is a will there is a way. Well sometimes. I did manage to make a card for this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week it's a sketch (from me). Being a sketch you can use it for what ever purpose you need a card for right now - birthday, thanks, wedding. Here it is.

And this is what I came up with.

No inside today cause I forgot to finish it - :O
One of my favourite techniques is heat embossing and that is what this card is all about. I wanted to really play with it. So I pulled out my dotty stamp inked it up with versamark and stamped it on Smokey Slate. I choose a non-white base as it would really show off the colour. Then very carefully sprinkled my first embossing powder on about a quarter of the ink. Tapped it off then added the second to cover another quarter. Tapped it off and repeated that for the last two embossing powders. I was a bit worried that the versamark would dry off and the powder wouldn't stick before I got all four powders on. But it worked fine! The resulting colourful confetti pattern just said birthday to me so I finished it off with a shiny silver balloon.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT you'll be inspired for sure!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim.

JAI# 274 Just add inspiration

Hello there,
it seems that nearly all the males in my family have birthdays in September/October and of course we have Father's Day in September too - so I have a stack of male projects I need to get done. This week the new Just Add Ink challenge is an inspiration challenge from Trish and I thought it was perfect inspiration for a birthday card for my Dad. Here's the inspiration picture.

Mmmm.. look at those lovely natural textures and woodgrain - just lovely. Perfect for my Dad as he taught himself to work with wood and is still happy to potter in his retirement. This is what I came up with.

I wanted to capture the woodgrain and also the different alignments of grains that you see in the parquet flooring. The final touches are very simple - a staple to ground the banners and a little clip.

Hope you can join us this week. Do check out the rest of the DT for some wonderful inspiration.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
