JAI# 273 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
this week at Just Add Ink it's time for a colour challenge. Rochelle has given us an interesting vibrant colour combo that I really rather liked. I thought the colours would make a great birthday card so I pulled out a dotty stencil and got to work! Here's the colours.

And here is what I came up with.

I knew I wanted to explore what colour the inks would be on the kraft cardstock, and I also wanted to play with the dots stencil. So I pulled the stencil out and sponged a pattern of white dots on kraft then heat set them. Layered the stencil on again, offset slightly and then started scribbling on colour. (Going back sometime I saw Erica Cerwin do this scribble technique and tucked it away as something to try sometime. One point I do remember her saying is to make sure you keep all your scribbling in the same direction - it looks much better!). Anyway I loved how it turned out here so I then added some banners, throwing in some silver glimmer (this is for a birthday after all) and that's about it.

Do check out the rest of the fabulous DT creations. Hope you can join us!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #272 Just add butterflies

Hello there,
butterflies are few and far between in the garden right now. Instead we see a thick layer of frost every morning but it's nice to dream of warmer times to come. Happily the challenge this week, from Di, at Just Add Ink is to Just Add Butterflies.  By way of an update, did the school holiday coming to an end mean I got some stamping time - yep it sure did!

The beauty of the new Watercolor Wings set from SU! is that you can let your imagination run wild with colour combinations when stamping the butterflies.  Having said that I stuck to a fairly subtle soft combo as I wanted something light, airy and fresh. I also experimented with adding a subtle background using a new stencil. First I sponged on some Pink Pirouette ink then versamark and clear embossed to get a shiny finish. The final subtle detail was to die cut the mats with a stitched die.

It's always a good time to play with butterflies so hope you can join us this week. Don't forget to check out the wonderful winged inspiration from the rest of the DT.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #271 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well by the hair of my chinny chin chin (speaking metaphorically that is!!) we have (almost) made it to the end of the school holidays. There have been times when I've welcomed the relaxation of routine but this time I am looking forward to the return of school. It also means (I hope) a return to crafting time for me! Luckily I could plan ahead so I have something to show you for this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have another lovely sketch from Narelle for you.
I had fun mixing up different colouring mediums for this one.

I wanted a mix of soft pinks and yellow for this one. I actually coloured my flower and put it aside, as I wasn't quite happy with the pink tones. Luckily I managed to find the right tone in the end to go over and blend in to bring it down to a more dusky pink tone. (It started out what I can only call fluorescent pink - not joking!). I'm still loving watercolour texture and strong stripey patterns at the moment so of course both of those had to go in there as well, oh and lots of gold.

Do go check out the rest of the DT, their creations will knock your socks off! Hope you can join us this week - we'd love to see what you do with the sketch.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #270 Just add inspiration - Christmas in July

Hello there,
we have a mid winter challenge for you this week at Just Add Ink which is very appropriate for the southern hemisphere at the moment as we had some super thick fogs this week that have kept the temp's real chilly!! This week the challenge is an inspiration challenge from Nikki - it's Christmas in July.

I thought this inspiration picture was a brilliant way to kick off my Christmas card making for the year!

The first two things that really stood out to me were the tree and the stripes so I knew I had to incorporate both of those elements. I toyed with the idea of putting the tree in a bauble but decided to just make it a tree in a shaker instead. (Really you can never go wrong with a shaker!) The new SU! Christmas DSP had the perfect stripey pattern and then all that was left was to add some extra sparkly stars as background in the shaker and sequins of course!

Hope you can join us for this festive inspired challenge. For more Christmas inspiration do go check out the creations of the rest of the team.

Kim

JAI #269 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
we just made it through our second major germ war in the same school term in time to send DD off to her school camp. My beloved offspring both kindly shared their germs both times with me too. Given that it's only the beginning of winter as you can imagine I'm really hoping we will be immune for the rest!! With the upcoming school holidays I am trying to plan ahead for upcoming events, so I was keen to use this week's new Just Add Ink challenge  - this week it's a colour combo from me - to get a head start on Father's Day. Here's the colour combo.

And this is what I made for my Dad.

Texture, texture, texture is what you want for a masculine card and I packed a few different ones in here. Lots of earthy linen thread, shiny black embossed details, staples and stitching. I thought the black really added some punch into the more subtle colours of the colour combo. All the inky details add lots of depth too.

So can you see yourself putting these colours to good use? Hope you can join us this week. Don't forget to check out what the rest of the DT did with the colours you'll be impressed!

Kim
