Just Add Ink #707 Sketch

Hello there,
time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week's it's a sketch challenge from yours truly. One fun thing about sketches is that you can always rotate them, or flip them to make them work for your idea, which is what I did this week. Here's the sketch.

Here's how my project turned out.

The semi circle sketch element is what drove my idea for this project. Once I thought of it being the moon then it was just a case doing the inky work to create a night time scene. While not realistic, artistically I preferred the tree elements at the bottom to be in white as they contrasted so crisply with the dark sky. The dark tones and clean lines lent this more towards a 'thinking of you" sentiment so that's how I finished it off.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects using the sketch to show you so please go check them and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #666 Inspiration

Hello there,
it's time for the new challenge from Just Add Ink and this week Jan has an inspiration challenge for us. It definitely has a winter vibe but you don't have to go with that theme. Just use the colours, objects or patterns from the inspiration picture below and feature them in your project.

I, however, did go with a wintery vibe. I took several elements from the inspiration picture - colours, the snowy tree background, lots of white to contrast with bright colours.

This project was all about die cutting - lots and lots of trees - and ink blending to add pops of colour. I added texture in a couple of ways. First by dry embossing all the trees with a subtle texture and then by adding splatters to the ink blended elements.

The Just Add Ink design team have plenty of fabulous projects for you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #613 Colour

Hello there,
I couldn't resist a Christmas in July project this week as the colour challenge for Just Add Ink was just perfect for an atmospheric wintery card. Nikki suggested the following colour combo for us.

And here is how my card turned out.

I started by watercoloring my background, and once dry adding heat embossed snowflakes and some shimmer to the "lake". A die cut mountain range was the perfect divider for the sky/ lake division and adding trees to frame the scene let me add in the Mint Macaron element. The polar bear comes from a retired set but he is just too cute not to use and was simply coloured with blends. A mat of embossed woodgrain helps reinforce the natural feel and add some extra subtle texture.

The mix of colours really appealed to me and I am really happy with the result.

The rest of the JAI DT have lovely projects to share with you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #578 Sketch

Hello there,
we are fast heading towards Christmas, you may have already noticed a trend towards Christmas cards her on the blog so don't expect that to change. This week at Just Add Ink, Narelle is asking us to Just Add a Sketch. Here's the sketch.

And here is how my project turned out.

It took me a while to mull over what elements I wanted to use on the right hand side, but once I settled on a tree, I knew I wanted a deer to be curled at the bottom. That peaceful scene led me to the sentiment.

For the tree I pulled out my Pine Wood dies, there is no outline stamps for the tree die, so having die cut a tree I just drew in the 'stamped' lines myself. Then coloured with Blends. The scene led itself to a rustic background so I embossed a woodgrain background then splattered that with Wink of Stella and white gouache. The rectangle panel in the sketch acts as a grounding element for my scene and sentiment. To add a bit of Christmas bling I gold embossed the sentiment (which is very challenging to capture in a photo) and added a gold metallic enamel star from my stash.

I feel like the simple design and neutral colours suits the peaceful 'nature' feel the project has.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects to show you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Kim

Just Add Ink #562 Inspiration

Hello there,
we had so much frost on the ground one morning this week it almost looked like snow! So is it any surprise my thought's turned to my first Christmas project for the year? The inspiration photo for this week's new challenge from Just Add Ink may have also given me a push in that direction ;) Here's the inspiration picture, this week suggested by yours truly.

Now you do not need to go with the Christmas theme, but please use the colours, patterns, or objects you find in the inspiration photo to feature in and inspire your project. Here's how mine turned out.

I'm not ready to retire last years Gnome for the Holidays set - they are just too cute! So I stamped my gnome, and his house (I did have to free draw a mushroom top to his little tree home) coloured it all up with my Blends. Die cut some trees and a little slope of snow and put it all together to create my Christmas scene. Given the inspiration photo featured a lot of white, I kept my background white but added the corrugated embossing that helped echo the pattern of the stair railing in the inspiration photo. I added Christmas sparkle with shimmery crystal effects, sequins and wink of Stella!

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects to show you so please go check them out and then join in the challenge.

Just Add Ink #533 'S'

Hello there,
I had fun this week snatching a little bit of time to colour for this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week Tina is asking us to Just Add 'S'. That means the main element of your project must begin with the letter 'S'. It could be a pattern - like stripes or scallops, or an animal - snake or snail, or be a card fold like a shadow or shaker card. The possibilities are almost endless!

I'm in Christmas crafting mode so the obvious 'S' for me was Santa!

I coloured up Santa and his two reindeers, then created a forest scene to place them in using dies. It took a while to get all the pieces coloured, cut and arranged but it did turn out pretty cute - so worth the effort!

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fun 'S' projects to show you, so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Kim

Just Add Ink #521 Inspiration

Hello there,
well what a change - last week we had snow flakes, this week we had beautiful warm spring days. I really enjoyed sitting in the warm sun streaming in through the windows putting together the pieces for my project. I decided the new challenge from Just Add Ink, this week to Just Add Inspiration from Rachael, was perfect for a Father's day card. Here's the inspiration picture.

And this is what I came up with.

From the inspiration picture I pulled the mix of textured copper, white, green and blue for my project. The key element to masculine cards is texture, lots of texture. So splattered, stitched watercolour base, embossed copper, embossed mountains, heat embossed moon, and wonderfully textured die cut trees - love these!  Combine all those together with some dimension and you get a colourful atmospheric masculine card.

The rest of the Just Add Ink DT have beautiful projects to show you so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
