JAI 163 Just add a fun background

Hello there,
well I'm snugged up on the couch tapping away, a nice place to be, especially since the temperature is dropping outside. We came verrry close to having our first frost the other day. But I don't mind a brisk walk in the morning and looking at all the gorgeous autumn colours is a lovely way to start the day :)

However my card today has more of a springy feel I think and a really fun  textured background and that is what we want you to add this week at Just Add Ink - Just add a fun background. Now please note it must be a background you create using ink and/or paper. Go and check out the rest of the JAI DT for some fabulous and fun ideas!

I decided to seize the chance to try stamping on tissue paper.  You do the stamping first and to be honest it looked Ok but nothing special till I scrunched it up and then adhered it to my base cardstock layer. It almost seems transformed - so very tactile and textural - it reminded me of fabric even! Since this challenge is all about the background I didn't want to cover it up too much. So since I some new dolly sizzlets to play with I made up a little medallion and topped it off with some rolled flowers and pearls and finished the front off with some linen thread detail.

This was definitely a fun way to add a background and I'll be trying it again! Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 162 Just add a technique you have never tried before

Hello there,
well we have a fun challenge for you at Just Add Ink this week. It's Just add a technique you have never tried before. Now I've been paper crafting for a good 7 years and there are always lots of things I still have on my try one day list. So this is a good time to check your list and then go play!!

As you can see I just couldn't resist taking the "chalkboard" technique for a spin. I had stamps sets all over the table mixing and matching and playing with the arrangement till I was happy. It was lots of fun though and very effective. The mix of white embossing, white ink and white (and coloured pencil) adds so much detail and depth. I might have got a bit carried away with some of my doodling though! As my starting point I checked out a great tutorial by Betsy Veldman, you can find it here.

So why don't you join in the challenge this week and have some fun trying out something new! Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT for some awesome inspiration too :) Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 161 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
well this week at Just Add Ink we have a colour challenge for you - and I must admit this wasn't a combo that came easily to me. Are you up for the challenge? Here it is.
I was lying on the couch, deciding whether to stay there and just doze, a rare option (but DH had the kids out of the house) when the idea for this card popped into my head, I turned it round and decided it could work and that was enough to get me off the couch. So I did. Here it is.

I don't use a lot of DSP (hording instincts kicking in here I think!) But it has a key role in this. I must admit I originally thought it would end up a bit more vintagey but while it has some elements of that I think it has a quite modern feel too. Regardless I was happy with the way it turned out and it gave me the chance to pull out one of my in colour dahlia's too.

Thanks for visiting and if you want some great inspiration to get you going check out the rest of the DT!

JAI 160 Just add inspiration

Hello there,
I hope everyone enjoyed the break at Easter. I love having the luxury of some time at home just to putter around and get some of those - I'll do one day - jobs done. And some chocolate to go along with it doesn't hurt either ;) This week at Just Add Ink we have a Just Add Inspiration challenge for you. Here's the pic.

Just recently, all of sudden in fact, Autumn just kicked in. I must admit I love Autumn weather - that cool tingle in the morning and the warm, but not too warm sun during the day - just lovely! Anyway that's what this photo made me think of. But what I really wanted to add in was lots of that texture and then some tinges of colour. I went with pink (cause this was going to a friend who likes a hint of pink) and I reckon if your squint there is a hint of pink in the inspiration photo.

I wanted to bring in texture through embossing but also using some lovely natural ribbon. I even stamped a lace pattern on one! I also inked up the embossing folders to get some extra contrast. I must admit I couldn't resist using a doily too - have you noticed them popping up? Definitely a favourite with me at the moment. It was fun to build this one to play with the elements and I did love mixing and matching all the bits.

Hope you get the chance to play along and see where inspiration leads you - a good starting point is to check out the rest of the DT for some fabulous ideas.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
