JAI 208 Just add a colour combo

Oh Hello,
it's funny where your imagination can take you. On seeing Mae's colour combo for this weeks Just Add Ink challenge the first thing that popped into my head was flowers. I love that crafting lets you take what might seem somewhat unlikely colours and make them just seem right! Here's the lovely combo Mae picked for us this week.

Water colouring has been on trend for a while now and this was my first chance to dip my toes in the water - so to speak ;) It won't be my last either I can tell you! My colouring tool of preference is an aquapainter. To intensify the colour I keep my brush pretty dry, and for this card I actually mixed using markers directly in the areas where I wanted deeper colour then used the aquapainter over that and repeated that process again. I found this worked really well, even on the whisper white cardstock that I used, with very little warping.  I also embossed all my flowers reducing the opportunities for the colours to bleed. I wanted my flowers to be the focus so I kept the rest pretty CAS. I couldn't resist adding that twine bow and a tiny smattering of rhinestones though.

Do check out the rest of the DT for some gorgeous inspiration.

Kim

JAI 207 Just add a sketch

Hello and happy day to you all!
I've had a lovely week this week - I got to catch up with a crafty friend and spend hours chatting about stamping. DH was horrified I could spend four hours talking about stamping. My reply was that we had only just scratched the surface and could have easily spent another four hours talking about life, stamping and everything!

I have also only just scratched the surface of using all the new stamping goodies I got in my last SU! box but you will see some of it for the card I made for this week's Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have a sketch for you. The first one I've ever made - eeekk!

And here is what I made of it.

I don't think I'm ever going to go off the idea of using dollies I love the lacy detail - so girly! Aside from the dollies I did a fair bit of heat embossing another fav technique of mine. Using the chevron border punch on the large tag was a last minute idea but I love the peek a boo effect you get with the DSP beneath.

Do check out the rest of the DT for some great inspiration for this sketch.
Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 206 Just add Saleabration

Hello there,
well the annual SU! Saleabration (SAB) promotion wraps up in a couple of weeks but before it does and while we all still have these lovely goodies in our hands to play with we thought it would be fun to make this weeks Just Add Ink challenge - Just Add SAB. So get out those stamps sets, the embossing folder the punch etc and come join us for some fun this week. This is what I came up with.

One to show you the shine from the embossing and gold foil trims

And the inside (with as my daughter pointed out crooked stitching but I decided it was all part of the handmade effect)

OK I can't deny this was labour intensive but I really enjoyed piecing this pattern together with all the banner punch pieces. Many of you will recognise that I pulled the colours from the Good as Gold card kit also a SAB freebie.

For once I kept it sleek and modern, with no sponging in sight!! The sharp angle of the banner shape and the geometrical patterns layering them created just called for that approach. Of course there had to be a bit of bling - so I used narrow strips of gold foil paper down the sides, some gold stitching (yum!) and embossed the black sentiment.

I loved how this turned out!! Do get out your SAB products and show us what you can make with them - we'd love to see it! For more inspiration check out the rest of the DT - you'll be wowed for sure!

Kim

JAI 205 Just add a sunburst

Hello there,
well its not often you'll see a scrap page from me even though I began my stamping journey originally with the intention to scrapbook! I find it quite an intensive process that I have to plan and want to perfect (probably too much). However, I did capture some recent moments at my first scrapbooking retreat - such fun!

This particular page was perfectly suited to the new challenge at Just Add Ink this week. This week we want you to Just Add a Sunburst to your project with ink, paper, dies for example. The DT have lots of awesome examples to inspire you.

This particular moment was very special as it marks a turning point - the moment when my beautiful girl realised she could read books all by herself. Having been an avid reader since I was about her age seeing her take this step was very special and while the page isn't perfect (I can't help self consciously cringing about my hand written journalling) I'm so glad I have it down on paper!

TIP: To add some depth to the sunburst I sponged Melon Mambo ink to darken the areas closer to the centre and used Whisper White towards the edges to lighten the colour.

Hope you can join us this week at Just Add Ink.

Kim
