Just Add Ink #506 Inspiration

Hello there,
I've been trying my hand at some watercoloring lately, I am very much in experimental and learner mode, but you can only get better by trying so today I'll show you something I worked on over a couple of weeks. I used the new challenge from Just Add Ink, this week Just Add Inspiration, from Nikki, as the kick off point. Here's the inspiration picture.

I pulled some of the colour tones (in a much paler version) from the inspiration picture and was also inspired to created a domestic kitchen scene, which was perfect for a Mother's Day card.

Adding layers of colour is important in watercoloring, and I put that into practise with my teapot and cup. The important thing is to let each layer dry. For the flowers I used a wet on wet method for each petal. First mapping in the petal with clean water then dropping in my two colours of ink on opposing sides and letting them mix. Each petal turns out absolutely unique. Since I was creating a domestic scene I needed a table to put my teapot and cup on. To get the woodgrain effect I inked up my Pinewood Planks embossing folder and then pressed that down onto the watercolour paper, that gave just the perfect amount of woodgrain definition. A swish with a wet paint brush then filled in all the gaps. I honestly had no idea how this card was going to turn out and if I'd even like it, and was almost surprised that I did like it.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects to show you so please do go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Kim

Just Add Ink #504 Colour

Hello there,
this week at Just Add Ink Tina is asking us to Just Add a Colour Combo and the palette has a very elegant feel. Here it is.

Here's what I made.

We are rapidly moving into the depths of winter here in Australia, but the pink hue of Rococo Rose had me thinking of spring blossoms, so that is what I filled my project with. A cold wintery afternoon provided the perfect opportunity to sit down and colour, and then trim out a whole lot of blossoms. The blossoms are anchored by an oval frame, made by taping together two different sized ovals, then die cutting. I kept the background simple so as not to distract from the blossoms adding some embossed texture and partially brayering the panel.

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of wonderful projects to show you so please do go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
