JAI 204 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
we have a great colour combo from Nikki for you at Just Add Ink this week. I love that it includes gold. I'm really enjoying adding touches of gold to my work at the moment as it adds such a lush richness. Here's the colour combo.

And here is what I came up with.

Ooooooo the sheer delight to play with new stuff - it took a while but I finally managed to get my hands on some new SU! product. In fact I even had this card completed bar the "Oh Happy Day" sentiment panel so I was very happy when my box arrived! (I might note here I made this card a few weeks back as my Feb schedule was kind of crazy - so I'm not as deprived as I sound - lol!).

You could say I got carried away with gold sequins, but I rather like it, the white polka dots were just calling out for something and I like how they echo the gold circle frame for the sentiment. And to be honest once in a while its kind of fun to get a little carried away ;) A little gold rolled rose and some delightful ruffled ribbon finish it all off.

This is a lovely soft but rich colour combo so do join us this week and don't forget to visit the rest of the DT for some wonderful ideas.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 203 Just add a sketch

Hello there,
well after melting in the extreme heat we've had consistently this summer thankfully the temperature has come down and we've even had some rain. You know wet stuff that falls from the the sky - its been so long! Anyway all that heat might have influenced my decision to go with cool colours for my card for this week's Just Add Ink challenge.  This week -  its a sketch from Paula.

I found for me it worked better if I rotated it 90 degrees.

I used DSP on the right hand side and then echoed that with a stamped panel on the left. You might have noticed I do like using the Honeycomb embossing folder to stamp with - since it does come up rather often ;) I stamped, coloured and paper pieced my little girl, changing out her colours for the inside. On the front she was cut out and then mounted on dimensionals. I vintaged it all up with a sponging of Crumb Cake ink around the edges and some faux stitching. I always enjoy a little bit of colouring - so relaxing, especially if you can find a cool place - like right under the air con - lol - to just sit and play :)

Thanks for visiting and do check out the rest of the DT for lots of great takes on this sketch.

JAI 202 Just add stripes

Hello there,
I'm breathing a sigh of relief here as I have just made it through our main birthday season. My two munchkins are only two weeks apart so this time of year is all about birthdays (with a dash of going back to school). This week's challenge at Just Add Ink was just perfect for making a card for my little Mr 6. This week we want you to Just Add Stripes.

You might remember a few weeks ago I posted my first circle thinlet card which I made for my daughters birthday. Well I also made one for my boyo. Here it is.

Opening up
Open all the way

The invitations for his party were space themed (done using MDS - first time for me!) so continuing that theme I made him a space card. It had to be similar to his sisters but different too (to cope with the endless sibling rivalry (sigh)). So for his I used a bit of twine strung with a selection of planets, stars and a spaceship - of course! One end pops out of the circle flip side  and the other to the sentiment panel so that when you open it up they dangle across the card - a very fun effect :) Embossing the images and using glimmer paper for the stars adds that subtle (but not too girly) bit of sparkle.

TIP: I used the scallop circle die from the circle thinlet dies, cut it once from red glimmer paper, then rotated it and cut again with the same die to get a more spikey edging. You can do that with any scallop circle punch or die!

Hope you can join us and have some fun adding stripes this week. Do check out the rest of the DT for some fabulous stripey ideas!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI 201 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
has February crept up and caught you by surprise? Well just in case it has we have a challenge lined up that will help you get that Valentines Day card made on time! This week at Just Add Ink our challenge is to Just Add a Colour Combo. Here's the colours.

And this is the card I made for my hubby - for our anniversary rather than Valentine's Day.

It was sooo hard to restrain myself from adding more to this - but I always have to remind myself when I'm making guy cards to go easy on the fussy details. So I kept the detail in this one limited to the soft layered hearts, a tiny wee sparkly heart and a small twine bow.

Thanks for visiting and do check out the rest of the DT for fab colour combo inspiration.
