Just Add Ink #562 Inspiration

Hello there,
we had so much frost on the ground one morning this week it almost looked like snow! So is it any surprise my thought's turned to my first Christmas project for the year? The inspiration photo for this week's new challenge from Just Add Ink may have also given me a push in that direction ;) Here's the inspiration picture, this week suggested by yours truly.

Now you do not need to go with the Christmas theme, but please use the colours, patterns, or objects you find in the inspiration photo to feature in and inspire your project. Here's how mine turned out.

I'm not ready to retire last years Gnome for the Holidays set - they are just too cute! So I stamped my gnome, and his house (I did have to free draw a mushroom top to his little tree home) coloured it all up with my Blends. Die cut some trees and a little slope of snow and put it all together to create my Christmas scene. Given the inspiration photo featured a lot of white, I kept my background white but added the corrugated embossing that helped echo the pattern of the stair railing in the inspiration photo. I added Christmas sparkle with shimmery crystal effects, sequins and wink of Stella!

The Just Add Ink DT have lots of fabulous projects to show you so please go check them out and then join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #460 Emboss Resist

Hello there,
this week at Just Add Ink we have a fun technique challenge for you. Lou has asked us to Just Add Emboss Resist.

Now I love heat embossing, it is just magic watching the powder melt and then turn glossy, in fact it's a rare card of mine that does not have any heat embossing on it! Coincidently, just recently I had watched a video from Jennifer McGuire (see her post here) where she made cards using what she called subtle resist. This basically involves putting a layer of colour down, then clear embossing an image over this, then adding more ink over the first layer. I started out with two things in mind I wanted to use a darker ink palette, and the images that were embossed had to be slightly broken so the difference between the resist and inked areas was distinct. Here's how it turned out.

I broke out another technique that falls in the oldie but goodie box, rock and roll stamping. Simply ink up your stamp in one colour then rock and roll the edges in another (usually darker) colour. This is a great way of adding colour variations and interest. I used my finger to help soften the edges between the two inks before stamping. After embossing my trees on the brayered background I sponged Whisper White ink over the top to create a halo of white around my trees. Once you wipe it off the embossed trees the trapped darker colour really pops against the now more muted tones. To finish off the card I added a little water splatter and some more neutral masculine-ish textures and it was done.

The Just Add Ink DT have a really great array of projects that are all about emboss resist, so please go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

Just Add Ink #441 Inspiration

Hello there,
we are having a VERY hot summer this year (bring on Autumn I say!) but until then, I am seeking out every cool corner of the house, especially when I sit down with a cup of tea and a sweet treat on the side. If you are a fan of sweet treats then this week's Just Add Ink challenge is right up your alley too! This week Jo has suggested we Just Add Inspiration and her picture is filled with sweet cake creaminess. Yum! Your project for the challenge can be inspired by the colours, patterns or elements in the picture. Here's the picture.

I used a several elements of the inspiration picture for my project - the colours, the sweet treat theme and I pulled the texture from the cupcake wraps.

I wanted to get a good balance of the three colours I selected (Blushing Bride, Pool Party and Highland Heather) so I layered up three stitched ovals to frame a multi coloured cake, which is kind of perched on the fun graphic style sentiment. I am really enjoying adding some colour to the larger scale sentiments that have open line art letters. The corrugated background references the cup cake wrappers and add loads of texture. I also added in some silver glimmer and thread to add the essential bling elements!

Please go check out the awesome projects from the rest of the JAI design team, and then come back and join in the challenge.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim
