JAI 31 - just add a colour combo

Happy Friday everyone :),

this is my week off from the Just Add Ink DT but as usual I couldn't resist playing along, as the colour challenge this week sparked my imagination. Here's the colour combo.

The first idea I came up with thinking about these colours was a cupcake! May'be it was the Chocolate Chip as most cakes, especially if my DH has anything to say about it, are chocolate in this house. Now I've never made a cupcake card so I Googled it and perused a few blogs and found some templates - saw some wonderful tasty creations. But after all that I decided to try and make my own template. Here's the result.

As my starting point I used a tent topper card format, you can find a tutorial for it on Splitcoasters here. So to start I cut a Choc Chip base 4 1/8" wide and 9 " long, then folded over giving you a card base of 4 1/2". Then I just decided how much I wanted to taper the bottom in and used my cutter to trim the sides. Moving on to the Kraft layer I cut a strip of Kraft 3" high and about 9 " long. First using Real Red ink I stamped solid spots randomly over it, then I scored every 2/8". Once that was done I folded it up and down accordian style. I adhered it to the base using a mix of sticky strip and Tombow. Before I fixed the upper portion I tied choc chip grosgrain over the top, adding the little tags wth some linen thread. For the cupcake top I started by punching 6 (1 3/8 ") circles from post it notes then laying them out on some choc chip cardstock, making sure that the final dimensions was proportional to the bottom and would still allow the card to fit into a standard envelope. Using the outside of the circles as a guide I trimmed around the edges, then using that as a guide I cut my actual top out of Real Red DSP from Sweet Slumber. Next I dry embossed a swirl pattern onto the top and adhered the cupcake topper to the card. Now I had that in place I could trim the top corners of the base to match the curves of the topper. The final touch was to add lots of Dazzling Diamonds to all the swirl ridges on the cupcake top and just finish off the inside to match.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you get to enjoy a sweet treat this weekend :)
