Just Add Ink #433 Colour

Hi there,
my tropical Santa, for this week's Just Add Ink challenge turned out to be very appropriate as we've been hit by tropical temperatures and I wouldn't have minded being at the beach (as long as I was under a big shady tree) instead of at work! This week Jo suggested we Just Add a Colour Combo. Here are the colours.

I ended up loving this bright combo of colours. Here's what I came up with.

I bit of stamping, colouring and embossing brought this card together really quickly which was perfect for a busy weekend. I think this is one of my favourite Christmas cards so far this year!

The Just Add Ink DT have a gorgeous array of cards to show you so do go check them out and then come back and join in the challenge with us!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #351 "L"

Hello there,
well having survived my germs I'm back to busy, busy, busy again. But not too busy for the new Just Add Ink challenge! This week Tina is asking us to Just Add 'L". Yes, "L". That means you must add as the main element of your project things that start with "L". That could be the colour lime, or a lemon, ladybug, lamb or light bulb or a card fold like a lever card or a luminary. There are so many possibilities!

Here's what I came up with.

In the end I decided to keep my card monochrome and let the detail from the leaves be the star. Those earthy tones were a great counterpoint to the glimmer banner sentiment, which adds lots of shine and shimmer. So much so that I didn't add any sequins - shock and horror - I know - no sequins!!!

Do go check out the rest of the JAI DT for lots of fun "L" inspiration. Hope you can join us this week!

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #317 Just add a colour combo

Hello there,
well things got serious this week as I had to go and buy a new pair of thermal socks (my old ones were decidedly holey :o) The socks were an absolute requirement as it's been wet and it's been cold and my poor toes were feeling the cold!  However, some of that wet weather meant it was a good time to stay in and stamp (actually who needs an excuse ;).
My first task was this week's Just Add Ink challenge - this week I (yes me) want you to Just Add a Colour Combo. It's a very friendly colour combination - I promise!

The colours said flowers to me, and I knew instantly I wanted to try something I had seen my lovely JAI team mate and friend Nikki do recently. See her card here. She used the Botantical Blooms stamps straight to paper. It's funny I've been so absorbed by the matching dies that using the stamps like that had never occurred to me!! Here's what I came up with.

This is remarkably CAS and flat for me :o One way I got depth but kept it flat was by masking parts of the design as I stamped. The flowers make a great background for a strong but simple sentiment. To make that a little special I die cut three layers and then added a gloss top by covering it with glue (fine tip glue pen) and leaving it to dry. (Thanks for the tip Di :) I also pulled stripes into the sentiment to echo the stripey border. Sequins were the last thing needed to finish it all off.

Hope you can join us this week! Before you do, do go check out the wonderful inspiration from the rest of the DT.

Thanks for visiting,
Kim

JAI #316 Just add stripes

Hello there,
well this week at Just Add Ink, Patrice has challenged us to Just Add Stripes. My project turned out nothing like the ideas I originally had in my head - although funnily enough both projects used SU! Botantical Builder framelits. I changed directions as I realised I needed to make a birthday card and since it was for a good friend of my Mr8 I decided to make something fun and interactive - my first magic slider card. (I might add my Mr8 was utterly captivated). Here it is.

It's looking a little plain here - but wait.

The slider is half way and you can see the magic happening!

And with the slider all the way up.

And of course the inside.

It's another mix of old and new here (no BBB on my doorstep yet). But I pulled out Emerald Envy, which was the perfect colour for my dinosaur scene and combined that with Kraft. There are plenty of stripes - stripey background, stripey leaves, stripey banner - so I think I have that covered ;) The slider mechanism is created by having two identical scenes, one on the base layer that is coloured and one stamped on the top acetate layer. The white cardstock slider in the middle of these two is the piece that you pull up and makes the magic happen. You can find a tutorial for one here, it's little different from the way I constructed mine but you will get the same effect.

Stripes are such a wonderfully versatile element to use - do go check out the rest of the projects from the JAI DT and you will be wowed and inspired! Hope you can join us this week.

Kim
