JAI29 - Just add a colour combo

Hi everyone,

this week the Just Add Ink challenge is to use a set colour combo. Its a nice one!! so I couldn't resist playing in my off week from the DT. Here's the combo.

The first thing that sprang to my mind on seeing the colours was that they would be perfect for making a winter birdhouse. Now I was lucky enough a few months ago to find a lovely little tutorial on Jo Dumbleton's blog here, on how to make one of these from scratch.

I used Kraft for the actual house part, stamping it with versamark in a woodgrain pattern. I used some Always Artichoke as the base flap for the roof, then layered that with scalloped Always Artichoke DSP, sponging the edges to give the impression of snow on the roof. The peak of the roof is a little piece of Rose Red. The roof is clipped onto the box, holding it closed at the same time with a library clip, tied with a little piece of Artichoke grosgrain. For the front I punched out the bird in Rose Red then layered that onto a White bird. I added a Rose Red DSP wing, and a little Artichoke eye. I added two branches in Artichoke for the bird to perch on, adding some Rose Red "berries". I sponged a bit of snow onto the branches and some crystal effects on the berries (and the birds eye). Last touch was to stamp some window sheet (acetate) with a little flower using White Stazon. Mind you its definitely best to fix the window sheet in place using glue dots before you stick the birdhouse together;)

The end result - a very cute little box that you can tuck some little goodies into and give to a friend.

Thanks for visiting, and don't forget to have a go at the challenge yourself and then link your creation back to Just Add Ink,

Kim

  12. Well, aren't you clever! I like how the top is not glued in place. My colleagues always say the boxes of candy are too nice to tear apart so I always try to figure out a way for them to be able to take the candy out without ripping anything out. This is a great idea!

    TFS!
